Alexei learned tennis skills with his brother Anthony Popyrin under the guidance of his sports-driven parents.

As a child, he lived in Dubai for two years and later moved to Alicante, Spain, where he became neighbors with Alex de Minaur.

Popyrin turned professional in 2017 and has won one singles title on the ATP Tour.

He has achieved a career-high ATP singles ranking of No. 59 and a career-high ATP doubles ranking of No. 235.

Australian tennis player Alexei gained recognition for his victory over Taylor Fritz at the 2023 Australian Open.

Alexei was born in Australia on 5 August 1999 to his parents, Elena Popyrin And Alex Popyrin.

His father, Alex, co-founded Ultimate Tennis Showdown with the tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou.

Alex’s keen interest in tennis has always guided his sons to be part of his tennis learning.

Whereas Elena, his mother, has always been supportive of his career.

The couple was blessed with two sons, Alexei and Anthony, and two daughters, Sonia and Anna.

Among their children, Alexei is the only one to excel on the tennis court and become a famous tennis player.

They ensured Alexei was skilled with tennis skills and multilingual in English, Russian, and Spanish.

Alex’s three siblings are Anna, a brother Anthony and the youngest sister. Anthony, among the three, has the same career aspect as Alexei.

Anthony started his bachelor’s degree at Keiser University in 2019 and then, after a year, transferred to Arizona Christian University.

Following this, in 2023, Anthony graduated from Arizona Christian University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management.

Moreover, Anthony has two years of experience as a tennis coach from the Tennis Brothers.

Alexei also has two sisters, among which Anna is married and has a kid, whereas the other sister is the youngest and is not available on social media.

Growing As A Player With The Help Of His Parents

Popyrin shares how his family’s sacrifices have shaped his journey in tennis. At nine, his father took him to Croatia for a tournament, beginning his international tennis experience.

Popyrin, who excelled in soccer, eventually focused on tennis after his mom convinced a coach to watch him play.

He reflects on the long traveling his family did for tournaments across Europe, highlighting the bond they shared during those trips.

Popyrin acknowledges his family’s sacrifices, such as selling their house in Sydney, to support his and his brother Anthony Popyrin’s tennis aspirations.

Despite his brother’s injury setback, Popyrin considers him his best friend and appreciates their competitive spirit.

Popyrin experienced success in 2021, winning his first ATP Tour title and reaching a career-high ranking.

Popyrin gives credit for his confidence and sense of belonging on the big stage to the support of his parents.
