The Diaz brothers are thriving in the major league with their respective teams.

The siblings have been supportive of each other throughout their professional careers and are always seen working out together in their offseason.

Alexis Omar Diaz, born on September 28, 1996, is a professional baseball pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds of the MLB.

The Puerto Rico native started his professional baseball career as the 12th-round pick of the 2015 MLB draft by the Cincinnati Reds.

He made his professional debut for Arizona League Reds only in 2017 after missing his entire 2016 season due to injury.

Diaz played for several minor league affiliate teams before finally earning a place in the 40-man roster of the major league team.

Eventually, he made his MLB debut on April 8, 2022, against the Atlanta Braves. Moreover, he was selected to the 2023 MLB All-Star Game in 2023.

Alexis’ elder brother, Edwin Orlando Diaz Laboy, is also a professional baseball pitcher for the New York Mets.

The Seattle Mariners picked him in the third round of the 2012 MLB draft, and was assigned to the minor league affiliate.

It was on June 4, 2016, Edwin made his MLB debut. And within two months, he broke the record for consecutive strikeouts (11).

After three seasons with the Mariners in the major league, he was traded to the New York Mets along with Robinson Cano and $20 million cash considerations for Jay Bruce and four other players.

Moreover, the two-time All-Star pitcher was named Reliever of the Year twice (2018 and 2022) and All-MLB First Team (2022).

On a personal note, Edwin tied the knot with Nashaly Mercado in February 2019. They share two kids; Jahel O (b. July 10, 2016) and Sebastian Javier (b. August 4, 2021).

Alexis Diaz And Edwin Diaz Brotherhood

Edwin, as an elder brother, has supported his younger brother, Alexis, throughout his professional career.

To Alexis, Edwin is simply more than his older brother. Edwin is Alexis’ closest advisor, role model, and best friend.

Despite playing yearlong with their respective team, the two brothers always make time to play together during the off-season.

Moreover, in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, the Diaz brothers were included in the 30-man roster for their national team.

On March 15, 2023, Edwin got injured while celebrating their 5-2 victory over the Dominican Republic.

He then had to undergo surgery, missing the quarterfinal against Mexico on March 17, which they lost 5-4.

Alexis believed it was his fault that his brother got hurt. “I talked to him because he was saying it was his fault when I got hurt because he was the one who first hugged me,” said Edwin.
