Amile Jefferson | Early Life, Family, And Education

On May 7, 1993, Jefferson was born to his parents Malcolm Musgrove and  Quetta Jefferson, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was raised in Philadelphia, playing basketball from a very early age.

His father, Malcolm Musgrove, played basketball at Delaware State from 1992 to 1994. And maybe that’s where he got his basketball skills from.

Malcolm and Karonn are his two brothers. And he also has two sisters, Amoni, Amesa, Amea, and Milan.

Amile Jefferson | High School Career

Jefferson schooled at Friends Central School, where Jason Polykoff coached him. He led his high school to win over Pennsylvania Independent Schools Tournament titles four times. He accomplished his high school records by averaging 1,569 points, 839 rebounds, and 189 blocks.

Jefferson was hired for the 2012 McDonald’s All-American Game, and he ended up scoring eight points and grabbed three rebounds. He averaged 7.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game as a junior at Friends Central.

With his outstanding performance in-game by game, he has rated the No. 21 overall recruits in the 2012 high school class by Scout, No. 25 by ESPN, and No. 36 by Rivals.

Jefferson joined Duke University and began playing basketball to establish his career further.

2012 – 2013

He grabbed a membership of the All-ACC Academic Team and played in 32 games, scoring 4.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.3 offensive rebounds per game. He was allegedly the second-best player on the team.

Jefferson led his team to win over Maryland with 1/26. Similarly, he took the win over Boston College, too, scoring a season-high 14 points a home.

2013 – 2014

He appeared in all 35 games with 26 starts, averaging 6.5 points and 6.9 rebounds while shooting 644 from the field. 

Jefferson scored 2.9 offensive rebounds per game and ranked fourth in the ACC in offensive rebounds while ranked eleventh in total rebounds per game, scoring 6.9 rebounds.

Not only that, he headed Duke eleven times in rebound. Also. he took the team win over Kansas in the Champions Classic in Chicago. Similarly, his team won against Virginia and Pittsburgh too.

He was titled to the ACC All-Tournament second team after putting up 7.7 points and 8.0 rebounds and helped lead Duke to the championship game.

2014 – 2015 And National Championship

He proved himself again in this season, appearing in all 39 games. With 26 starts, he averaged 6.1 points and 5.8 rebounds while shooting 631 from the floor. He stood twentieth in the rebounding, this time with a 5.8 score.

Jefferson led his team Duke to win the title NCAA Championship this season. He also took the glorified win over other teams such as Louisville, North Carolina.

He added an enormous spark with seven rebounds and three blocks and headed the team to win over  Wisconsin in the 2015 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship Game.

2015 – 2016 and Injury Update

For the first time in his life, he missed the final 27 games because of a right foot injury. However, the injury turned out to be a fracture in his right foot. 

Before that, he started the first nine games and scored 11.4 points and 10.3 rebounds while shooting .683 from the floor and led Duke in rebounds eight times, and posted three double-doubles in nine games.

After his comeback, he helped his team win over Seina with 19 points, Kentucky with 15 points and 16 rebounds, Indiana with 11 rebounds in a 35 minutes game. These were the career highlighting points for Jefferson.

2016 – 2017

Jefferson snatched a Senior CLASS Award, a first-team Senior CLASS Award All-American, titled to the All-ACC Tournament second team. Not to mention, he was a member of the Hall of Fame Tip-Off All-Tournament Team, where his team won the trophy.

Talking about the overall season, he was ranked third in the ACC in blocks(1.9), fifth in double-doubles(9), sixth in total rebounds(8.4), eighth in defensive rebounds (6.0), and 10th in offensive rebounds(2.4).

 

Similarly, he led his team to win over Grand Canyon with a career-best of 65 blocks, 15 points, seven rebounds, and five blocks. His team also had a victory over Penn State in the semifinals of the Hall of Fame Tip-Off.

His team claimed the Hall of Fame Tip-Off title when they won against Rhode Island.  The winning moments were on and on for his team Duke.

He played miraculously and led his team to win over William & Mary, Michigan State, Florida, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest.

The prominent time was when his team took the ACC Tournament Crown, leading 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting, five rebounds, and blocked three shots over Notre Dame.

Early Career And NBA Draft

Initially, the athlete wasn’t drafted in the 2017 NBA Draft. Nevertheless, Amile Jefferson signed a contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves for the 2017 summer league action on July 7.

Later he became an official payer of the Minnesota Timberwolves on September 18, 2017. The point guard was soon sent on loan to Iowa Wolves, Minnesota’s development team, in the NBA G League as an affiliate player on October 14.

Jefferson scored 35 minutes per game with 18 points and 13 rebounds (NBA G-League leader).  He was awarded All-NBA G League Showcase 2018 First Team.  Moreover, he was described as  “epitomizing what the NBA G-League is all about.”

He led the Wolves to victory over Canton Charge, with 29 points, 15 rebounds, and six assists. On January 15, 2018, he underwent a two-way contract with Minnesota Timberwolves.

Amile Jefferson was titled to the Mid-Season All-NBA G League Western Conference Team, voted by G League coaches, general managers, and players.

His rookie year’s strongest moment was when he broke the single-season record for NBA G-League double-doubles with 36 double-doubles in 47 games.

For this, he was titled to the 2017–18 All-NBA G League All-Rookie First Team, All-NBA G League All-Defensive First Team, and All-NBA G League Second Team.

On April 11, 2018, Timberwolves converted Jefferson’s contract to a standard NBA contract, making him playable in time for the 2018 NBA Playoffs.

Orlando Magic (2018 – 2020)

Jefferson joined Orlando Magic under a two-way contract. On July 7, 2018.  He got the first chance to play as an NBA player on December 31, 2018, against the Charlotte Hornets, playing four minutes with two points and one rebound.

He again resigned from the two-way contract with the Orlando Magic but got waived on February 6, 2020.

Galatasaray (2020–present)
