Andre Roberson | Early Life, Family & Education

On December 4, 1991, Andre Roberson was born to parents John Roberson and Lisa Roberson in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Furthermore, he was born into an athletic family, with a father who played basketball in New Mexico and a mother who played volleyball.

Andre has six siblings, two of whom are still young and have not reached college age, but the rest are associated with NCAA Division I athletes.

After graduating from high school, he joined the Colorado Buffaloes men’s basketball team coached by Tad Boyle.

Moreover, Roberson was one of the top rebounders in the country during his three years at CU, finishing third in 2011–12 and second in 2012–13. The following rank led Buffaloes to the NCAA Tournament.

As a junior, he notched 10.9 points and 11.2 rebounds per game in the 2012-2013 season. His outstanding play earned him first-team all-PAC-12 honors and conference Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Oklahoma City Thunder

Andre was drafted 26th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves to begin his NBA career but was later acquired by the Oklahoma City Thunder for the 2013 NBA Draft.

Following his Summer League performance, he signed with Thunders on July 12. During his rookie season, he had multiple assignments with the NBA Development League’s Tulsa 66ers.

Similarly, Andre rejoined Thunder in July 2014 for the 2014 NBA Draft.

Roberson’s rookie scale contract was extended through the 2015–16 season after the Thunder exercised their third-year team option on October 22, 2014.

In addition, he earned the starting shooting guard position for the Thunder for the 2014–15 season, recording his first career double-double (10 points, 12 rebounds) on December 18 against the Golden State Warriors.

He also amassed a career-high 12 points on February 9 against the Denver Nuggets.

Extending Contract

Roberson’s rookie scale contract was extended through the 2016–17 season when the Thunder exercised their fourth-year team option on October 23, 2015.

In 2015–16, he was retained as the starting shooting guard, and on December 23, he set a career-high with 15 points in a 120–85 win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

Similarly, he was ruled out for three weeks on January 25, 2016, due to a right knee sprain. After missing ten games, he returned to action on February 24.

Roberson had a career-high 17 points and 12 rebounds in the Finals, as the Thunder beat the Golden State Warriors 118–94 to take a 3–1 series lead.

After that, the Thunder lost the series in seven games. 

Due to the loss of Kevin Durant and the addition of Victor Oladipo, Roberson was moved to the starting small forward position for the 2016–17 season.

Moreover, in a 110–93 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on February 24, 2017, he set a new career-high with 19 points.

Roberson was selected to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team after the season.

Injuries and Sidelined

Roberson signed a three-year, $30 million contract extension with the Thunder on July 14, 2017.

Similarly, he ruptured his left patellar tendon on January 27 against the Detroit Pistons after missing eight games with left patellar tendinitis in January 2018.

The next day, Andre had surgery and was ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Roberson was declared out for another two months on October 4, 2018, after undergoing a procedure due to a setback in his rehab from left knee surgery.

In addition, he also expressed his gratitude to the hospital personnel, his followers, and all well-wishers for their outpouring of affection via Instagram.

Moreover, he felt soreness after landing from a jump in late November, and an MRI indicated that he had a tiny avulsion fracture in his knee. He was declared out for at least another six weeks after that.

Brooklyn Nets 

Spending seven seasons with Thunder, Andre finally found a new home and signed with the Brooklyn Nets On February 16, 2021. 

In addition, before being released, he appeared in two games with the Nets and signed a 10-day deal with the Nets on February 26.
