The former Atlanta Falcons head coach, Arthur Smith, is the father of three children: two sons and a daughter.
Smith shares a loving relationship with his wife, Alison Smith, and they are doting parents to their three children.
Smith began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at North Carolina in 2006. He then had stints with the Washington Redskins (2007-2008) and Ole Miss (2010).
Subsequently, he joined the Tennessee Titans, where he served in various roles, including defensive quality control coach, offensive quality control coach, offensive line coach, assistant tight ends coach, offensive coordinator, and tight ends coach.
Due to his achievements with the Titans, he was hired as the Atlanta Falcons’ head coach in 2021. Even with a thrilling victory over the New York Giants, the 2021 campaign finished with a 7–10 record.
Moreover, the pattern persisted in 2022 but failed to do so in 2023. Smith faced criticism for his player management, eventually leading to his downfall.
Smith was fired by the Falcons on January 8, 2024, following three straight 7–10 campaigns. His coaching story illustrates the erratic nature of NFL coaching by reflecting on both victories and setbacks.

Arthur Smith and Alison Smith are happily married and are proud parents of three children. They named their sons Tanner and William and their daughter Sophie.
An interview with Rise Up Tonight revealed that Allison previously worked at a local TV station in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
In the same interview, she revealed that she had not considered marrying someone related to the NFL. She noted that her family wasn’t an “NFL Family” and mentioned that her brother played sports like soccer and tennis.
Moreover, Allison also said that she was proud of her spouse for his hard work and dedication towards his job. She commended her husband for the remainder of the interview and concluded by expressing her excitement for the future.
Despite maintaining a private stance on their relationship, the couple exhibits a strong bond of love and support. With minimal social media presence, they prefer to keep their relationship and family life a secret.
Why Did The Falcons Fire Him?
Arthur Smith’s tenure as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons has ended. After completing his third consecutive losing season with a 7-10 record each year. Smith was fired following a 48-17 loss to the New Orleans Saints.
Moreover, the Falcons, enduring six straight losing seasons since 2017, failed to make the playoffs under Smith’s leadership. The decision was announced after a meeting between Smith, owner Arthur Blank, and CEO Rich McKay.
Despite high expectations for the 2023 season, marked by free-agent signings and top draft picks, the team struggled. The fans’ discontent grew, particularly after a disheartening loss to the NFL-worst Carolina Panthers.
It was clear that Smith faced challenges settling the quarterback position after the departure of longtime starter Matt Ryan. The head coach was also heavily criticized for conservative play-callings and failure to take advantage of the recruits.
The firing marks the end of Smith’s three-year coaching stint with the Falcons, leaving Blank searching for the team’s sixth head coach. The key issue for the team moving forward remains the quarterback position.
