He was living a happily married life with his wife, Asenath, and the couple had two children together at the time of the runner’s death.

He gained widespread fame for his prowess in long-distance running and for the marathon world record.

He also participated in three swiftest marathons ever documented, triumphing in three significant races from December 2022 to October 2023, including two esteemed World Marathon Majors events.
During the 2022 Valencia Marathon, the 5 feet 11 inches tall athlete marked the quickest marathon debut to date, and in the 2023 London Marathon, he fell short of breaking the world record by just 16 seconds.

The running champion died in a car accident near Kaptagat, Kenya. In the accident, his coach, Gervais Hakizimana, also passed away.
Reportedly, the local police revealed that Kelvin was driving the car when it lost control and rolled over, and sadly, both Kiptum and Hakizimana died in the accident. Another person, a woman, got injured in the crash.
