Chase Childers died on Pawleys Island while helping to save multiple swimmers in distress from a rip current.
Chase Childers, born on August 21, 1986, in Nashville, Tennessee, was a former professional baseball player who spent two seasons in the Baltimore Orioles’ minor league system.
A left-handed batter and right-handed thrower, Childers played as a designated hitter and was listed at 6’1″ and 195 pounds.
He played collegiate baseball at Georgia State University before signing with the Orioles on June 26, 2009.
That same day, he was assigned to the Gulf Coast League (GCL) Orioles, and later promoted to the Bluefield Orioles in May 2010.
Over his minor league career, Childers recorded 169 at-bats with a .195 batting average, 17 RBIs, six stolen bases, and a .543 OPS.
He did not hit any home runs during his professional tenure.
On July 17, 2010, he was placed on the voluntary retired list, marking the end of his professional baseball career.
Chase Childers Died Due To Drowning At The Age Of 38
Chase Childers, a former Baltimore Orioles baseball player, tragically lost his life on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the age of 38.
As per the sources, Chase drowned in an attempt to help troubled swimmers.
Police received a call at 4:45 p.m. about swimmers in distress in front of the Litchfield Plantation House on Atlantic Avenue, according to a release and the incident report.
When they arrived, the police were informed that Chase had entered the ocean in an attempt to help other swimmers but had not returned.
A witness told police Childers went into the ocean and that the witness was unable to help Childers back to shore.
Police and Midlands Fire Rescue searched the area with swimmers and watercraft. The Coast Guard assisted with a helicopter.
PIPD stated that Childers and another individual entered the ocean on Sunday to assist four to five individuals who were in distress before Childers got caught in a rip tide.
On July 15, 2025, Pawleys Island PD posted about the incident, stating,
“He died trying to save others,”

According to the incident report, all of the individuals Childers went to help made it back to shore safely.
Mayor Brian Henry released a statement offering prayers to Chidler’s family. He said,
The Town is saddened by the report of the drowning over the weekend. We pray for the family members and offer our condolences.

It has been reported that a rip current was the likely cause of the drowning incident. We would like to acknowledge the efforts of our first responders who worked tirelessly to recover the victim and bring comfort to the family.

Chase Childers And His Wife, Nataley Childers, Were Blessed With Three Children
Former Baltimore Orioles baseball player Chase Childers was married to Nataley Childers on Saturday, October 11, 2008.
Nataley always supported Chase in balancing his professional and personal life.
Sadly, their married life ended after 16 years following the tragic death of Chase.
According to Nataley’s LinkedIn profile, she attended North Cobb Christian School from 2001 to 2006. She graduated from Kennesaw State University in 2011.
In 2011, she also graduated from Georgia Highlands College.
She served as a relator at Keller Williams Realty, Inc., from September 2013 to April 2015.
Since April 2015, she has been serving as the realtor at the Atlanta Communities Real Estate Brokerage.
Chase and his wife Nataley were blessed with three children: Barrett, Brooks, and Bella Mae.
On July 12, 2025, Nataley took to her official Instagram handle and wished Brooks a happy 9th birthday. She wrote,
