Formerly of Pulaski, Barbara Gail Worrell passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at the Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem, Virginia. The specific cause of her death has not been publicly disclosed.

Barbara Gail Worrell was a respected individual who made influential contributions both in her community and in the world of sports.

Born on January 20, 1954, in Pulaski, Virginia, she was an outstanding athlete at Pulaski High School and Virginia Tech.

Barbara Gail Worrell was the daughter of the late James Berman Worrell, Jr. and Christine Elizabeth Sayers Worrell.

Her parents played a significant role in her life, and she carried their legacy through her achievements and contributions.

Worrell was a dedicated and outstanding athlete at Pulaski High School. She continued to excel in sports while attending Virginia Tech.

She was deeply passionate about her alma mater and loved her Hokies.

Moreover, she was proud to be chosen to call the lines at the Ladies’ U.S. Open in Flushing, New York.

Likewise, she also served as a referee in some of Billie Jean King‘s golf tournaments.

Barbara Gail Worrell’s passing has deeply affected her community, as they come together to mourn the loss of a beloved individual.

She is survived by her siblings, nieces, nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Nancy Worrell.

Additionally, she had a special friend, Barbara Hof, in Roanoke, who is mourning the great loss of her good friend.

Her family will hold graveside funeral services and a memorial service to honor her memory.

  • The graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Draper Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Draper.
  • Following the graveside service, a memorial will take place at 11:00 AM at Village Chapel, located at 3091 Greenbriar Road, Draper, officiated by Rev. Wes Jamison.
  • After the memorial service, there will be a reception and a family greeting at the Draper Mercantile.
