Barbora Strycova experienced the height of her career at one stage and even contemplated retirement. Meanwhile, she spent quality time with her boyfriend, Petr, during her hiatus.

After a 26-month break and a son, Barbora Strycova returned to the court. She is living life on the edge balancing between her career and family.

Barbora Strycova is a Czech professional tennis player who is considered among the greats of the game.

Born on 28 March 1986, Strycova turned professional in 2002 and represented the Czech Republic in the Fed Cup until 2018.

On 15 July 2019, she was ranked career-high world No. 1 in doubles. She won the bronze medal in doubles at Rio Olympics 2016 with Lucie Safarova.

However, her first Grand Slam title came at the 2019 Wimbledon Championships in doubles alongside Hsieh Su-Wei. 

Strycova has won 31 doubles titles on the WTA Tour, including eight at WTA 1000 level.

Strycova is dating her longtime partner Petr Matejcek, and the couple have a son together. But, the tennis star is not married to Matejcek.

Reportedly, the Czech tennis player and Matejcek started dating shortly after her split with a singer, David Kraus, on July 2018.

Barbora’s boyfriend, Petr Matejcek, is an editor at Elle, a Czech magazine. He is also a fellow Czech born in Prague.

Matejcek went to Akademie Mode & Design München in Munich, Germany, after completing studies at Deutsche Schule Prag, UNYP University.

Beginning his career as an editor with Leko Media Group, he subsequently worked for Welt Online, Euro am Sonntag and Stern.

Likewise, Matejcek contributed to the blog and was the editor-in-chief for Proc Ne and a journalist for Tydenik Euro.

Similarly, he also worked for Hospodarske Noviny prior to joining Elle Magazine on May 1, 2018.

Matejcek is always supportive of the tennis player’s career and her zeal to play the game. They’re often together when Barbora is not playing.

In addition, the couple go to the shops together and talk about fashion. Although Petr tells Barbora about the designers, he can’t convince her to buy them. 

Strycova Is Adjusting To Motherhood

Strycova and Matejcek gave birth to their son, Vincent, in October 2021. He is a blond-haired and blue-eyed kid with many exquisite features.

Before Vincent, everything was planned for Strycova, who knew what was going to come. And now, with the kid, her plan changes frequently.

Strycova sets strict parameters and has been practicing three times a week. She devotes two hours to a session and does four hours of fitness work in the gym.

Albeit, the hardest part for the tennis mom is leaving Vincent three times a week when she heads to practice. 

They don’t have a nanny for the kid. Luckily Strycova’s mother, Ilona, is a constant presence to reduce the stress.

Barbora Strycova Used To Have A Husband

Strycova was married to her ex-husband, Jakub Zahlava. Jakub is a former German professional tennis player and was also her coach. 

Born in Plzen, Czechoslovakia, Zahlava is the cousin of Czech tennis player, Sandra Zahlavova.

Among the main draw of two ATP Tour level tournaments he played in, the German won the 2002 Wolfsburg Challenger tournament.

Barbora and Jakub got married in 2006. After nine years of marriage, they divorced in 2015.
