A GoFundMe for Mikayla’s funeral costs was started by family friend Nancy Martinez

In the wake of the loss, a GoFundMe campaign titled “Help Honor Mikayla’s Memory with Funeral Costs” was created by family friend Nancy Martinez.

The fundraiser, which has a modest goal of $3,000, is intended to help cover funeral expenses and ease some of the financial burden on Mikayla’s parents during an already unimaginable time.

In the campaign description, Nancy wrote:

“On behalf of our grieving family, we are heartbroken to share that our beloved Mikayla Reighn Wilson, only 12 years old, passed away. There are no words to describe the pain of losing such a bright, kind, joyful soul so soon. She touched the lives of everyone who knew her with her laughter, her curiosity, her sass, and loving spirit… No parent should ever have to plan a funeral for their child, and any contribution, no matter the amount, means more than we can express.”
