The Swissvale community is mourning the loss of longtime resident Walter W. “Walt” Holohan, who passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, November 2, 2025, at West Penn Hospital.

Surrounded by his devoted wife, Diane, and their sons, Jake and Walter, he left this world in the comfort of his family’s love.

Walt, affectionately known by many as “Buddy,” built a life defined by loyalty, kindness, and service.

At 71, he left behind a deep legacy — not only as a loving husband and father, but as a friend, mentor, and an ever-present figure in his neighborhood.

Those who knew him admired his steady presence, humor, and his ability to connect with others wherever he went.

For years, Walt dedicated himself to the Swissvale Little League as a baseball coach, shaping young athletes with patience, encouragement, and passion for the game.

He also served as an election judge at the local precinct housed at the Swissvale Fire Department, ensuring his community’s democratic process ran smoothly.

His involvement and reliability made him a familiar and respected face throughout Swissvale.

Family members describe Walt as the kind of person who seemed to know everyone — someone who always took the time to greet a neighbor, offer support, or share a laugh.

Loved ones remember him not just for the roles he filled, but for the genuine warmth and spirit he brought into them.

In honoring his wishes, the family held a private funeral. They plan to organize a memorial event at a later date so that friends, neighbors, and former players can gather to celebrate his life.

Those who wish to be included are encouraged to reach out to the family as plans are finalized.

The outpouring of condolences following Walt’s passing speaks to the profound impact he had on the lives around him.

Former classmates, Little League families, coworkers, and friends from across the years expressed their sadness and shared heartfelt memories — many noting his sense of humor, loyalty, and the irreplaceable presence he brought to the community.

Walt Holohan leaves behind his wife, Diane; his sons, Walter and Jake; extended family members; and countless friends.

Though he has passed, his influence continues in the lives he touched, the young athletes he guided, and the community he faithfully served.

As Swissvale remembers Walt, one thing is clear: his legacy endures in stories, smiles, and the lasting friendships he built — a true testament to a life well lived.
