Beloved WISSOTA Member Scott Engfer Passes Away After I-94 EMR Speedway Accident, Leaving Wife of 41 Years, Deb

On September 10, 2025, the racing community in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, mourned the loss of 68-year-old Scott Engfer, who was struck by a racecar at I-94 EMR Speedway.

Scott was a beloved member of the WISSOTA Auto Racing board and a track official. He was crossing the track on his ATV around 5:30 PM when the accident happened.

Doctors took him to the Lake Region Emergency Department, but he passed away from his injuries. His wife, Deb Engfer, and their family are heartbroken. The racing world feels his loss deeply.

Scott was a devoted husband to Deb Engfer. They married in October 1983 and built a life together in Litchfield, Minnesota.

Scott was also a proud father to his son, Travis, and a loving father-in-law to Nikki. He adored his grandchild and cherished his family.

Deb works as a Tech Trainer at 3M in Hutchinson, Minnesota. She has been strong for her family during this sad time.

Deb shared her feelings on Facebook. She wrote,

“I can’t find words to thank everyone for the love and sympathies we’ve received. It means so much to us.”

Her post showed the extent of the family’s support. She also talked about Scott’s recent health struggles.

In April 2025, doctors found he had prostate cancer. He started chemotherapy in May. His last treatment was set for September 22.

Scott stayed strong and kept working through it all. Deb called him a trooper.

A Tragic Accident at His Favorite Place

Scott loved auto racing. I-94 EMR Speedway was his happy place. He worked there as a track official and served on the WISSOTA board.

He was always careful on his ATV. He even told his friend Tony Robertson to slow down at the track. But on that Wednesday night, something went wrong.

Scott drove onto the track in front of a fast-moving race car. The crash was sudden and tragic. He passed away doing what he loved.

Deb wrote,

“For some reason, he shot out onto the track in front of a car going full speed. He passed away at his happy place. No more pain for him.”

Her words show her grief and her relief that Scott is no longer suffering.

Scott meant a lot to WISSOTA Auto Racing. He helped organize dirt track racing in the Upper Midwest. He was a leader, a friend, and someone everyone respected.

After the accident, promoters at I-94 EMR Speedway and WISSOTA chose not to speak on camera to WDAY News.

They wanted to respect the Engfer family’s privacy. The racing community has shared many stories about Scott. People remember his kindness, his humor, and his love for racing.

Even while sick, he never stopped participating in the sport he loved.

Deb has been a source of strength. Her Facebook post honored Scott’s life.

She shared his battle with cancer and his passion for racing. She also thanked everyone for their support.
