Ben Banogu was born on 19th January 1996 in Nigeria. Currently, Banogu is playing as a defensive end for Indianapolis Colts in NFL.

Ben Banogu | High School and College Stats

Banogu started playing football when he was in 7th grade in Prosper High. In his early Banogu high school football, he was a quarterback.

Although Banogu was not the best, he was still a good quarterback. He always dreamt of being next to Tom Brady or Michael Vick

In his sophomore year, he broke his femur. Later missed his entire junior year because of an injury. But he always loved the process of rehab and getting back on the field. 

Change in Position

Head coach Kent Scott suggested he would be the best fit for a defensive end. Later, in his senior year, he started playing as defensive end sacrificing quarterback position. 

In his first season as a defensive end, he recorded 21 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks. Later, he was named in All-district Third Team and All-State Third Team.

Likewise, in his school days, Banogu was a multisport athlete. Along with football, he was also a member of high school basketball and track & field too.

In his senior year, he was honored with All-District and All-Area in track & field.

Because of his injury, he was only regarded as a 2-star recruit. So, he only received one FBS offer others were from D2.

Although he always wanted to play at a higher level, he took the opportunity and attended the University of Louisiana under a football scholarship.

Banogu redshirted his first year at ULM. As a redshirted freshman, he played as a starter, recording 14 tackles for loss and 5 sacks.

For his performance, he earned the All-Sun Belt Newcomer Team honor.

Transfer

Later Texas Christian University offered him a football scholarship program.

Although he didn’t know anything about college or visited it, he took the offer to return home and play for the Big 12 title contender.

It was during his time at TCU he developed and transformed into the top draft prospect. At TCU, he also shifted his class routine to watch films with coaches to improve his game. 

Because of NCAA transfer rules, Banogu sat out for the 2016 season. In his return, during junior year, he became a starter for the team recording 16.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks.

He also earned All-Big 12 first team honor and  Big 12 Defensive New Comer of the Year. His efforts helped the team to secure a place in the Big 1 Championship game

During his 2018 senior season, Banogu scored his first-ever college touchdown in a home victory over Iowa State in September.

In his final year, he again earned All-Big 12 first team. Banogu finished the season with 18.0 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. 

Banogu graduated from college with a degree in risk management. He was also invited to Senior Bowl 2019 as a north team linebacker.

NFL Combine and Draft

Ben Banogu showed impressive performance in the NFL combine. The player was one of the top performers in the combine.

Likewise, the athleticism and fluidity of Bangou helped him throughout onfield- sessions.

Firstly, Ben Banogu competed for a 40m yard dash in 4.62 m. Likewise, he completed a 20-yard shuttle and three-cone drill in 4.27 s and 7.02 s, respectively.

Banogu then set the longest board jump by defensive lineman jumping 3.40m followed by a vertical jump of 1.2m. Finally, he completed 23 reps of bench press. 

Later, in the 2019 NFL draft, Banogu was selected as the 49th overall pick by the Indianapolis Colts in the second round.

He became the 47th TCU athlete to be drafted under coach Patterson since 2000. 

Professional Debut

Banogu made his debut in the season opener against Los Angeles Chargers on 9th September 2019. In his first-ever career game, he registered a half-sack.

By the end of his rookie season, he played 217 defensive snaps and recorded 2.5 sacks, 3.0 tackles for loss. He climbed into the defensive end role depth chart grabbing No.3.

And the training has given its result way too soon to have Banogu’s name coming up with a sack during practice.
