The Pompano Beach Community is Mourning the Loss of Darnell Deas!
Darnell Deas was a standout athlete and redshirt senior at Bethune-Cookman University.
Wearing jersey #5, he was a versatile return, running back, and wide receiver from Pompano Beach, Florida, where he attended Blanche Ely High School before rising as a standout athlete.
He carved out a reputation as one of the most dynamic return specialists in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).
Over his collegiate career, he amassed more than 2,100 return yards and six touchdowns, achievements.
Moreover, he earned recognition, including First Team All-SWAC honors in 2022 and Second Team selections in 2021 and 2024, with over 2,196 return yards and six touchdowns.
His speed, consistency, and ability to change the momentum of a game made him not only a key figure in his team’s success but also a respected name across the conference.
Additionally, he was listed in the 2025 Draft Scout database as a potential NFL prospect, with a 40-yard dash time between 4.42–4.60 seconds, showing professional-level athletic potential.
Darnell Deas’ passing has left a deep void in the heart of his family and the entire Bethune-Cookman community.
Bethune-Cookman Athletics expressed heartfelt sorrow over the loss of a former student-athlete, stating:
