His coaching journey has been marked by notable tenures, including serving as the head coach of the Houston Texans from 2014 to 2020 and at Pennsylvania State University from 2012 to 2013.

Continuing his impactful coaching career, O’Brien assumed the offensive coordinator role for the University of Alabama from 2021 to 2022.

Bill O’Brien & Wife Colleen: Twenty-Five Years of Love and Laughter

Bill O’Brien and Colleen’s enduring love story began in 1998 when they exchanged vows.

After more than twenty-five years of shared adventures, their bond continues to grow stronger.

Their family is beautifully enriched by the presence of two sons, Jack and Michael.

Jack, the elder sibling, entered the world around 2007, making him a young man in his twenties today.

On the other hand, the younger of the two, Michael, was born on May 5, 2005, and is now transitioning into his late teens.

The fortunate meeting that set the stage for their love story occurred in the early 90s.

Bill, then a humble graduate assistant coach with the Georgia Tech football staff, crossed paths with Colleen during an Atlanta sports bar celebration.

The backdrop was a jubilant atmosphere following Georgia Tech’s thrilling overtime victory against North Carolina.

Bill fondly reminisces about the moment, describing it as love at first sight.

Mutual friends, including tight ends coach Doug Marrone, facilitated their introduction.

Colleen, present as a guest of Marrone’s then-girlfriend and Colleen’s college roommate, Helen Donnelly, found herself amid a football celebration.

Bill’s family, witnessing the spark between the couple, gave their stamp of approval, with Bill recalling,

“My dad and my brother were there, too. They met [Colleen] first. And they were the ones that said, ‘You’d better not screw that up.'”

Reflecting on her initial impressions, Colleen recalls Bill’s humor despite the distraction of multiple football games playing in the background.

“There were so many football games on that he was busier watching the games than talking to me,” she laughs.

“But one thing I noticed about him was his sense of humor. He’s very funny, very self.”

Their journey, from that sports bar encounter to a quarter-century of shared joys and challenges, showcases the enduring power of love and laughter in their lives.

Distributing a generous donation of $500,000 between the Houston Food Bank and Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston Meals on Wheels, they demonstrated a commitment to immediate relief efforts and long-term support for vulnerable communities.

Notably, the Houston sports community rallied together in the face of adversity.
