Bobby Brown | Early Life and Family

Bobby Brown (Robert Douglas Brown) was born on September 24, 1984, in Los Angeles, California. His father’s name is also Bobby Brown. Likewise, his mother’s name is Regina Jefferson. 

The player also has a sister named Janika Pratt.

Bobby Brown | Start of the Playing Career

Brown went to Westchester High School in Los Angeles, California, and played high school basketball there. The player shared the court with future NBA players Trevor Ariza and Hassan Adams. 

Likewise, Brown went on to play NCAA Division I college basketball at California State University, Fullerton, from 2003 to 2007. He was a member of the Cal State Fullerton Titans.

Brown was named to the All-Big West Conference First Team in 2005–06. The 6’2″ tall player scored 1,961 points in 116 games (16.9 points per game) during his four years with the Titans.

This feat made him the school’s all-time leader in total points scored at the time.

Bobby Brown | Professional Basketball Career

Brown graduated from Cal State Fullerton in 2007. However, Brown went undrafted in the 2007 NBA draft. In August 2007, Bobby signed with the German club ALBA Berlin, with whom he helped win the German national domestic league.

The player also played in a five-overtime European second-tier level EuroCup game, scoring 44 points, the second-highest total ever in the competition. 

Brown returned to the United States in 2008 to play for the New Orleans Hornets in the NBA Summer League. The player joined the Toronto Raptors for the NBA Summer League in July 2010. 

Bobby signed with the Polish League team Asseco Prokom on September 22, 2010. However, he was released in December due to poor EuroLeague performance.

The player signed with the German team EWE Baskets Oldenburg on August 5, 2011.

After a year, on August 8, 2012, Bobby signed a one-year contract with the Italian League club Montepaschi Siena. He took over for 2011–12 Alphonso Ford, top-scoring trophy winner Bo McCalebb, who had recently joined Fenerbahçe Ülker.

Bobby also won the Alphonso Ford EuroLeague Top Scorer Trophy in 2012–13. The point guard was also fourth in the EuroLeague in assists, averaging 5.3 per game, and led the league in a number of other categories.

Brown scored 41 points in a 98–92 comeback win over Fenerbahçe Ülker on January 4, 2013. Since the 2000–01 season, he has tied the EuroLeague’s single-game scoring record. 

Bobby signed with the Dongguan Leopards of China in the summer of 2013. His contract with Dongguan was extended for three years on May 22, 2014.

Later Years

Bobby signed with Beşiktaş Sompo Japan of Turkey on March 28, 2016, for the remainder of the 2015–16 Turkish Super League season.

Similarly, he returned to the NBA and signed with the Houston Rockets on September 23, 2016. The player played for the team until he was finally waived by the Rockets on January 5, 2018. 

Following that, Bobby agreed to terms with Olympiacos of Greece on February 22, 2018, for the remainder of the Greek Basket League and EuroLeague seasons.

The player signed a one-year contract with Mornar of the ABA League and the EuroCup on November 1, 2018. Brown and Mornar parted ways on November 28. The player currently plays for the NBA G League Ignite.

Brown represented the CitiTeam Blazers in the 2018 edition of The Basketball Tournament (TBT). It was a single-elimination winner-take-all tournament with a $2 million prize pool.

The player averaged a team-high 20.5 points per game, 3.0 assists per game, and 3.5 rebounds per game, in two games.

CitiTeam Blazers were defeated in the second round by Team Challenge ALS.

Bobby Brown | The Graffiti Incident

In 2016, Bobby Brown received harsh criticism in China for inscribing his name and number on the country’s Great Wall.

Brown and the Rockets were in China with the New Orleans Pelicans for the NBA’s Global Game China. While in China, the player could not resist the urge to leave some graffiti on the 2,221-year-old wall. 

His work was discovered after he posted images on his Weibo microblog (similar to China’s Twitter) and wrote, “Had a blast at the Great Wall of China today.”

Chinese internet users were furious with Brown’s behavior and flooded the comments with rage.

One user asked the player if he was proud of his deed, while the other straight-up called out that the Great Wall is a part of the world heritage and not a ‘home toilet.’

Following the criticisms, Bobby Brown deleted the post and asked for forgiveness. The player wrote:

“I am so sorry for this!! I apologize I mean no harm by this, I respect the Chinese culture, I made an honest mistake..hope you forgive me.”

However, the apology post was also deleted later on.
