MLB pitcher Steven Matz’s wife, Taylor Cain, is a Christian singer who performs in the band CAIN with her siblings.

Steven Matz and Taylor Cain first crossed paths in 2013 when they were introduced by Steven’s New York Mets teammate, T.J. Rivera, and his wife, Ashton.

Ashton and Taylor had gone to Troy University in Alabama together, and they thought Steven and Taylor would hit it off.

And Rivera and Ashton were correct; the connection was instant, and the two started dating soon after.

Steven, a professional baseball player, and Taylor, a Christian music singer from Nashville, Tennessee, had busy lives that took them to different places.

The MLB star traveled across the country for games with the Mets, while Taylor performed with her band, CAIN, alongside her siblings, Madison and Logan. Despite the distance, they made their relationship work.

It was in 2015 that their bond grew stronger during a tough moment.

After returning from a charity trip to Honduras, Taylor became seriously ill with kidney problems.

The illness came on suddenly, and for a while, it looked very serious.

Steven described it as a “really scary time” that caught them off guard, but he stayed by her side in Nashville as she faced a scary time.

However, after medical tests, doctors were amazed to find that Taylor’s kidneys had healed completely. Doctors called her recovery a “miracle.” This tough moment brought them even closer.

Steven Matz and Taylor Cain Have Been Married for 8 Years!

On November 12, 2016, Steven proposed to Taylor in a romantic and thoughtful way.

He chose a friend’s house in Yaphank, New York, on a dock overlooking a peaceful pond, one of his favorite spots on Long Island.

To make it extra special, Steven flew Taylor’s family from Alabama to witness the moment. And it was Taylor’s easiest YES of her life.

Later, Steven and Taylor tied the knot on December 9, 2017, in Nauvoo, Alabama.

Their close friends and family, including Steven’s Mets teammates Jacob deGrom and Brandon Nimmo, attended the wedding party.

The couple settled in Nashville during the offseason, while Steven kept an apartment in Long Island City for the baseball season.

After almost four years of marriage, Steven and Taylor welcomed their first child, a daughter named Stevie, on August 21, 2022. Two years later, they welcomed their son, Steele Taylor Matz, on October 21, 2024.

Steele was born a month early, facing challenges like low oxygen and low birth weight, but Taylor called him a “fighter” who overcame those hurdles.

The Married Couple Is Involved in Philanthropic Activities!

Steven and Taylor are passionate about giving back to others. In 2015, they traveled to Honduras with the Hearts 2 Honduras foundation to help impoverished children.

Steven has also been involved in many charitable efforts through his Tru32 Foundation.

While with the Mets, he supported New York-area Little Leagues and donated to Elmhurst Hospital, the NYPD, and FDNY during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Steven also backed the Home Plate Project, which helped students access meals when schools closed.

In 2020, Steven received the Joan Payson-Shannon Forde Award for Community Service for his efforts.

Whereas, Taylor, through her music with CAIN, spreads messages of faith and hope, performing at events like Winter Jam to inspire audiences across the country.
