Brandon Bass was born on April 30, 1985, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to his parents, Charles Joseph, and Aretha Bass. 

He is the oldest of three siblings as the player has one brother, Chris Bass, and one sister, Dashia Bass.

Basketball was instilled in Brandon by his parents. According to him, his father, Joseph, was a basketball fanatic, naming two of his kids, Julius and Jordan, after basketball legends.

While his mother chose to call him Bass after his grandpa, his mother’s zeal for the game was contagious.

College Career

Brandon was a Louisiana State Fighting Tigers basketball team member from 2003 to 2005.

He played 29 games and started in all of them in his first year at LSU. As a rookie, the player averaged 12.8 points, 1.9 blocks, and 7.4 rebounds in 34.9 minutes per game.

While at LSU, Bass garnered various distinctions. In 2004, he was chosen to the SEC All-Freshman Team and was voted SEC Freshman of the Year.

Professional Career

The New Orleans Hornets selected Bass with the 33rd overall choice in the 2005 NBA Draft.

With that, Brandon signed a multi-year contract with the Hornets on August 24, 2005.

He was sent to the Hornets’ NBA Development League team, the Tulsa 66ers, twice during his rookie season.

He appeared in 50 games for the New Orleans Hornets, starting four of them.

The player signed a two-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks on July 26, 2007. Bass hit a turnaround jumper on March 1, 2009, to give Jason Kidd his 10,000th career assist.

He averaged 8.4 points and 4.5 rebounds in two seasons with the Mavericks.

Following that, Brandon signed a four-year contract with the Orlando Magic on July 10, 2009.
