Brewer State Junior College Basketball Coach Richard “Dick” Anderson Dies at 87, Leaving Wife and Kids Behind!

Richard Anderson's passing occurred just over a month after he and his wife, Carolyn, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Richard “Dick” Anderson, a beloved resident of Fayette, passed away on July 23, 2025, at his home at the age of 87. However, the reason behind his demise remains concealed.

He served as a coach and athletic director at Brewer State Junior College. Likewise, Anderson was also a track and field athlete at Tennessee Wesleyan College.

Richard Anderson is survived by his wife, Carolyn Powers Anderson, and kids: sons Todd Anderson and Trae Anderson (married to Amanda), and daughter Trena Anderson Bliven (married to Mark Bliven).

Tragically, His passing occurred just over a month after he and his wife, Carolyn, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Anderson and Carolyn married on June 6, 1960, and shared a long and loving life.

His son, Trae, shared pictures of Anderson’s on his Facebook, writing:

For those of you who knew my father, he passed away this morning. For those of you who didn’t know my father, he was the best basketball coach and father anyone could ever ask for!🏀.

Likewise, his daughter Trena took to her Facebook sharing several pictures of Anderson and writing a brief eulogy, which reads:

This one is for my Daddy. Go Vols!!
He didn’t even like for us to wear our Alabama apparel to his house, lol.
He’s now running the streets of gold with his Tennessee orange on singing Rocky Top Tennessee.

Likewise, Anderson also leaves behind his six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family has chosen grandsons Hunter, Zac, Logan, and Luke Anderson, along with Packie Lawrence and Gary Whitfield, to serve as active pallbearers. Likewise, former athletes will be recognized as honorary pallbearers.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will take place afterward at Fayette Memorial Gardens and Bro. Clyde Stevens will lead the service.

The family will welcome friends and visitors at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. before the service.

During this difficult time, we pray for the strength of Richard “Dick” Anderson’s wife, kids, friends, and extended family.
