The Green Bay Packers

Bryce started his professional career at National Football Leagues as the Packers drafted him. Then, in 1990 he got affiliated with the NFL club The Green Bay Packers.

In season 1991, Bryce got involved in a tackle with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Randall Cunningham. The mishaps caused Cunningham’s knee injury and settled ending the 1991 season.

Similarly, Bryce gave 64 appearances for Green Bay with 41 games in the startup. Also, he had 193 tackles with 32 assists, including his 32.5 sacks for Green Bay.

He also had four interceptions forcing eight fumbles, where Bryce recovered four fumbles. However, his contract was not renewed by the packers, which led him to move to Buffalo Bills.

The Buffalo bills offered Bryce Paup three years and $ 7.6 million contracts to join the team. Simultaneously, the new head coach Wade Phillips brought an aggressive 3-4 defense strategy that perfectly suited Bryce’s Skills.

Bryce was lined up over tight end and was rushed by the passer all game long. As a result, the bill’s defense was improved from rank 17 to 13, with team sack nearly doubled from 25 to 49.

In week 3, Bryce sacked Colts QB Jim Harbaugh three times. Moreover, he added 14 tackles and forced a pair of fumbles, and got the honor of AFC Defensive Player of the week.

For November, Bryce was also awarded AFC Defensive Player of the month as he didn’t go consecutive games without a sack in all season.

Despite sitting out the season finale against the Oilers, Bryce finished with an NFL-Leading 17.5 sacks with 126 tackles, two interceptions, and three forced fumbles.

The American-born was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year 1995 and made the pro bowl for the second time.

However, later in season 1996, he injured his groin in the match against Steelers which made him rest for the entire season.

After recovering from injury, Bryce returned in-game in season 1997, where he ended with 9.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. After the end of the season, the Jacksonville Jaguars offered him a contract.

Bryce has been considered as one of the top 50 players in Bills history. In addition, NFL Total Access listed him as one of the Top 10 free agents of all time.

Jacksonville Jaguars and the Minnesota Vikings

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed Bryce to a long-term contract with a $22 Million offer in 1998. He played for the Jaguars for one season from 1998-1999.

Bryce was signed again by Minnesota Vikings for season 2000 for the position of the right defensive end. The Minnesota Viking has been seeking pass rushers for two years and ended up signing Bryce.

In 2000 Bryce retired from a professional NFL career as a player. Furthermore, he made 545 career tackles and 75 career sacks to go along with six interceptions in his overall career.

Coaching Career

The end of a Professional NFL career became the beginning of a coaching career for Bryce Paup. He started as linebacker coach from 2004-2006 for De Pere High School.

Similarly, in 2007 he became the head coach for Green Bay South West High School. Bryce compiled a 22-14 regular-season record in his first four seasons, securing a second playoff victory for the school.

After he resigned from Green Bay on March 5, 2013, Bryce began his career as a defensive line coach at the University of Northern Iowa.
