Cade McNamara began his football career at Damonte Ranch High School in 2015.

During his impressive four-year tenure at Damonte, McNamara set Nevada prep football history records with 12,804 passing yards and 146 touchdown passes.

His outstanding performances earned him the title of Gatorade Player of the Year for Nevada in both 2017 and 2018.

McNamara initially committed to the University of Notre Dame but later changed his commitment to the University of Michigan.

During his time with the Wolverines, the quarterback played 21 games before transferring to the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Unfortunately, his 2023 season took a turn when he faced a season-ending knee injury.

Growing up, he shared his household with two brothers, Kyle and Jake, both of whom pursued football at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).

Father: Gary McNamara

Gary McNamara, Cade’s father, boasted his own athletic achievements as the starting center fielder for Fresno State in 1992 and 1993.

Following his collegiate career, Gary transitioned into coaching, dedicating six seasons to baseball at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Additionally, he held notable positions as a head baseball coach at various local high schools.

Initially Tilted Towards Baseball Over Football

Despite Gary’s extensive background in baseball, he admitted to having limited football knowledge and had initially encouraged Cade to follow in his footsteps in baseball.

Reflecting on this, Cade began his athletic journey in baseball, excelling as an infielder and pitcher.

However, after his freshman year of high school, Cade pivoted his focus to football, a decision that deeply impacted his father.

“Brutal,” Gary said. “I actually stopped coaching after that season.”

Mother: Nicole McNamara

Nicole, the cornerstone of the McNamara family, also brought her own athletic prowess to the table, having played college basketball.

Recognizing the dedication required to excel in sports, Nicole emphasized the sacrifices her sons willingly made for their craft.

She recalled instances like missing prom due to skills camps, highlighting that their commitment stemmed not from strict parental guidance but from their intrinsic drive to achieve excellence in football.

This dedication to their passion remains a guiding principle in the McNamara household.
