The Cane Bay High School community in Summerville, South Carolina, is mourning the heartbreaking loss of one of its own, Grace Christensen.
Grace was a tenth-grade student and a member of the school’s volleyball team. She was known as a cherished student and athlete, recognized for her warmth, leadership, and good spirit.
The CBHS shared the sad news through a post on Facebook. In the post, they expressed their grief and offered words of support to both the school family and Grace’s loved ones.
According to the Facebook post from the Summerville-based high school, Grace was not only part of the student body but also a valued member of the volleyball team.
They added that her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her. The Cane Bay High School also requested students, staff, and the community to lean on one another during this difficult time and to extend compassion and support to Grace’s family.
The school also honored Grace with the words, “Once a Cobra, Always a Cobra.” Her time might have been cut short by tragic fate, but the young girl will always remain a part of the Cane Bay family.
Cane Bay High School Asked Students And Staff To Wear Pink For Grace Christensen
In the same post where they announced the passing of Grace Christensen, Cane Bay High School wrote, “Please wear her favorite color to school on Monday, September 22, 2025.”
"Wear pink in honor and support: In honor of the student we recently lost, we ask that all students and staff wear pink tomorrow as we show our love, support, and unity. Let’s stand together as a Cane Bay family during this difficult time. Counselors will be available for anyone needing support."

However, the sudden request from the school, without many details about what happened, left some people confused. Autumn Stringer asked in the comments, “What happened?”
Similarly, Krystal Shaffer also wondered, saying, “Yes, I am wondering the same.” Replying to Shaffer and Stringer, Suzy Mitchum said, “If they wanted you to know, they would have told you. Maybe the pink means cancer.”
It should be noted that neither CBHS nor the Christensen family has shared any details about the cause or circumstances of Grace’s passing.
On the other hand, another Facebook user, Kelly S. Green, asked everyone to be compassionate and offer support to the Christensen family instead of asking for details.
"Let's remember this is someone's child. No matter the circumstances, it's a heartbreaking loss for all. Please don’t ask for details - the students will likely hear more at school tomorrow."

Kelly Green also mentioned that Grace was a 10th grader, a volleyball player, and would be deeply missed by many. For now, she encouraged everyone to focus on surrounding Grace’s family with love and support.
Furthermore, another Summerville resident, Leah Scarmeas, shared the same message from the school and said, “If you are a current student at CBHS, please wear pink to school tomorrow in memory of Grace Christensen.”
She added that Grace was a beloved member of the school’s volleyball team and an amazing leader. Scarmeas also sent condolences to Grace’s family during this difficult time.
