In the post’s comment section, many of John’s well-wishers wrote stories of interacting with him.
Bob Crawford wrote that John would come to his pub on Friday nights and, with his stories, keep the whole bar on the edge of their seats.
Crawford continued, “I would hand him his food and say this one is on me, in true coach fashion he would curse at me and tell me this is not why he came there, it was my honor Coach to buy you dinner, you truly inspired 1000s with your stories and wisdom.“
One of John’s students, Nick Buchanan, recalled his favorite memories with the Coach.
He wrote, “He [John] usually called you by your last name, or if you had older brothers or sisters that came through Central, he called you by their name instead of yours, and you just went with it.
The stories he told were second to none. It was an honor to impersonate him for our ’97 homecoming mock court, as he was and always will be a legend at Central Catholic High School. RIP Dean.”
Deputy Court Clerk at McLean County IL Government David Selzer wrote, “RIP. The Dean was one of a kind…I truly wish every generation could hear his Korean stories and wisdom.”
