Charley Hoffman is certainly in better health in 2024 than in 2023. Last year, he underwent surgery to remove a sun-damaged part of his hand, which had turned out to be skin cancer.
On Sunday, Hoffman didn’t win the WM Phoenix Open but showed that he still had it in him to challenge some of the best in the world. After the loss, the American golfer found out that he had qualified to compete at the Genesis Invitational.
Hoffman, 47, lost the title to the Canadian golfer Nick Taylor, who won his fourth PGA tour title. Taylor clinched the Phoenix Open with three consecutive birdies at the 18th hole.
On the weekend, Hoffman had shot 64-64 to finish runner-up and fired back-nine 32 on Sunday. It looked like Hoffman was ready to win his first title in eight years, but the wait has now extended.
Charley Hoffman Health Update 2024: Has He Lost Weight?
In 2023, the American golfer underwent surgery for skin cancer, but now Charley Hoffman health seems to have significantly improved. The golfer’s recent performance showed he is back to his best.
Last year, on May 18, 2023, Hoffman shared an Instagram post showing his hand that had been recently operated. On his Instagram caption, Hoffman clarified what had exactly happened to him.
Two weeks before sharing that image, Hoffman had undergone a routine checkup at his dermatologist. The dermatologist found some severely sun-damaged skin.
He wanted to wait till the end of the season for the doctors to operate on him. But eventually, he decided against it and went under the knife, as cancer wasn’t something he wanted to mess around with.
He told his fans the surgery was successful and they would see him in action in a few weeks. In the caption, Hoffman wrote he wanted to share the post as it was cancer awareness month.
He also told his fans that they better use sunscreen when heading outside and get checked regularly. Charley also wrote that he didn’t make the post to gain sympathy but to raise awareness.
Despite undergoing surgery, Charley’s weight seems to have not fluctuated. He appears the same on his Instagram posts but might’ve started to pay more attention to his health.
Before heading to surgery, Charley had played in the AT&T Byron Nelson tournament but failed to make the cut. After his surgery, Charley played in the US Open and reached T49.
Charley Hoffman Career
Since turning professional in 2006, Charley Hoffman has had four PGA Tour wins. One of his first PGA tour wins came in 2007 in the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic.
His second win was in the 2010 Deutsche Bank Championship. That season, Hoffman finished 25th on the money list, earning $2.5 million. Hoffman had to wait four years to win his third PGA Tour title, which was OHL Classic at Mayakoba.
Hoffman’s last PGA title came in the 2015 season with the Valero Texas Open. He has 59 top-10 finishes and has over $34 million in career earnings.
Previously, he spoke to the Magnifying Excellence podcast in 2021 to reflect on his career. With his wife, Stacey, Charley has raised over $3 million for children’s charities.
When asked what excellence meant to him, the golfer said that wanting to be elite at whatever profession you are in and willing to focus on being the best is the true definition of excellence for him.
For Hoffman, the definition has changed throughout the years. Previously, he only strived to be an excellent golfer, but now he wanted to have a balance between being a world-class golfer and a role model for his kids.
