Chase Young: Early Life and Education

The football player was born in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, on April 14, 1999. The player grew up in a loving family. His father’s name is Greg Young, and his mother is Carla Young.

Greg works as the deputy sheriff with the Arlington County Sheriff’s Office. Likewise, his mother works for the US Department of Transportation’s Office of Investigations.

The player also has a sister named Weslie Young. Chase was interested in football starting early in his childhood days.

He played football as a child when he was in St. Columbia School itself. After St. Columbia, Chase attended St. Vincent Pallotti High School, located in Laurel, Maryland, in 2013.

Chase Young: College Career

Chase received scholarship offers from over 40 universities before committing to play for the Buckeyes in July 2016.

As a sophomore, he became a starter, recording 10.5 sacks despite spraining both ankles halfway through the season. Because of his performance, the player was named second-team All-Big Ten.

As a junior in 2019, Chase became one of the team captains. The player had achieved enormous success during his college days. 

Suspension

The player was suspended for two games by the NCAA in November 2019 after receiving an unauthorized loan from a family friend.

He had taken the loan to help his girlfriend attend the 2019 Rose Bowl allegedly. The player later repaid the loan in full.

Chase had three sacks against Penn State in his first game back after being reinstated. He finished the season with 16.5 sacks, breaking the previous single-season school record of 14 by Vernon Gholston in 2007.

The player was one of 58 players invited to the draft, which was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic’s social distancing regulations. On July 23, 2020, Chase signed a four-year rookie contract worth $34.56 million.

During the preseason, Chase was the favorite to win the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award. In his debut against the Philadelphia Eagles, he had 1.5 sacks, four tackles, and a forced fumble.

The player finished the season with 7.5 sacks, the most among rookies, four forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.

By the end of his rookie season, Chase was the team captain. Likewise, he was also named NFC defensive player of the month for December. The player was the first rookie in Washington history to receive this honor.

Injury

Young had 21 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles in 2021. But, before he could play any further, the player suffered a season-ending ACL tear in his right knee in a Week 10 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The surgery to reconstruct his ACL included grafting a portion of his patellar tendon from the other knee. Many sportswriters thought his season was a letdown because they expected him to progress in his development.

The player is currently rehabilitating and is unable to participate in the springs’ offseason workout. It is a misfortune that despite being the overall second draft, the player has only played 24 NFL games.
