After that, on April 28, 2015, Diallo enrolled at the University of Kansas. But the NCAA failed to clear him to play; hence, young Cheick missed his first five games in his freshman season.

Finally, on November 25, 2015, he was cleared to play the games for the Jayhawks, who were up against Loyola on December 1.

Then in April 2016, Cheick made it to the NBA draft, forgoing his final three years of college credit.

Professional Career 

Judging by his caliber and play on the court, Diallo would undoubtedly get his cut at the draft. As expected and in everyone’s anticipation, he was drafted on June 23, 2016.

The Los Angeles Clippers selected him with the 33rd overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft, but he was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans later that night. 

He signed with the team a month later after averaging 10.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks in five Summer League games.

Cheick made his much anticipated NBA debut on October 29, 2016, where he recorded one rebound and one block in six minutes off the bench.

But the Pelicans suffered a 98-79 loss to their opponent, the San Antonio Spurs. In his first season, he played in only two games for a total of seven minutes.

Following that, on December 10, 2016, Diallo played in just under 31 minutes off the bench and scored a total of 19 points. Then he recorded 10 rebounds and shot 8-of-15 from the field.

Likewise, in the Pelicans’ season finale, Cheick had 12 points and 16 rebounds in a 103-100 win over the Portland Trail Blazers.

By March 2018, he scored a season-high 14 points in a 116-97 loss to the Washington Wizards.

Moreover, on February 6, 2019, Diallo scored a season-high 18 points in a 125-120 win over the Chicago Bulls.

Phoenix Suns And Other Leagues 

After playing for three years for New Orleans, Diallo finally parted with the team on July 23, 2019. He then signed with the Phoenix Suns for a two-year contract.

After Suns, he signed a contract with Avtodor Saratov of the VTB United League on February 2, 2021.

Similarly, on April 14, 2021, he signed with Fuenlabrada of the Spanish Liga ACB.

After that, Diallo inked a contract with the Motor City Cruise of the NBA G League on November 8, 2021.

He utilized the hardship exemption to sign a 10-day contract with the Detroit Pistons on December 23, 2021, and after that deal expired, Motor City acquired him again.

On May 1, 2022, Cheick joined the Cangrejeros de Santurce of the BSN.
