Caden Yarbrough was a 19‑year‑old from Weir, Mississippi, who tragically lost his life in a shooting at a New Year’s Eve gathering on Thomas Circle Street in Choctaw County.

Authorities confirmed that he was the only fatality in the incident. According to Choctaw County Coroner Chris Coleman and Weir Police Chief Dillion Cates, the shooting occurred outdoors as people were celebrating the holiday.

Police have made one arrest in connection with the case, though the suspect’s name has not yet been released because formal charges are still pending.

Additionally, reports indicate that several others were injured during the gunfire, though details about their conditions have not been fully disclosed.

Caden Yarbrough was a 19‑year‑old from Weir, Mississippi, remembered not only for his bright personality but also for his role as a student‑athlete.

He was part of the Choctaw County High School Chargers football team that made history by winning the school’s first‑ever state championship in 2024, contributing as a defensive back on the roster.

Though his career was only just beginning, his presence on the championship team and his commitment to education highlighted the potential he carried into young adulthood.

Emmalee ChancellorLove, the mother of Caden Yarbrough, has worked in nursing at the Choctaw Nursing and Rehabilitation Center since August 2014.

She studied at Holmes Community College and has built her life in Weir, Mississippi, though she is originally from Ackerman.

Married since June 6, 2009, she is known for her dedication to caregiving and her strong ties to her community, qualities that have shaped both her professional and personal life.

Tragically, her life was forever changed when her 19‑year‑old son, Caden Yarbrough, was killed in a New Year’s Eve shooting in Weir, Mississippi.

In the wake of his passing, A GoFundMe campaign has been launched by Sierra Fletcher under the title Our loving Caden, YB” to honor the memory of Caden Yarbrough.
