Kelly (fully named Christopher Kelly) was born on November 11, 1980, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, under the star sign of Scorpio.

Kelly commenced on the ice hockey field in an early phase. Well, he started to appear in matches as an amateur with the Clarington Recreational Hockey League. Following that, he also played for the Clarington Toros AA program. 

Later, Chris partook in the Toronto Marlboros minor ice hockey team for the 1994 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament. Right after it, he then played for a year in the Aurora Tigers at the junior level.

Moving on, Chris then made it to the major junior level through the 1997 OHL Priority Selection. Back then, he stood as the 56th overall pick in the fourth round, and he first played for the London Knights. 

Then, he also played alongside the Sudbury Wolves and posted 36 goals which was his career-high. He made nine goals and 26 points in his junior playoffs season in 25 games. 

Ottawa Senators

Right after his junior years, Chris entered the 1999 NHL Draft. Well, the Ottawa Senators drafted him as the 94th overall pick. He first spent a season with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League (AHL) during that tenure. 

Again, he devoted three full seasons to the same league with the Binghamton Senators. After four full seasons in AHL, he then played for the United Hockey League (UHL).

As a matter of fact, he played four games with the Muskegon Fury and was again back in the AHL. By the end of his rookie season, Chris became the team captain in Binghamton for two seasons.

Altogether, Chris made his NHL debut five years later, on February 5, 2004. In the first season, he appeared in a total of four games. However, he appeared in all 82 games after he became the lineman the following season. 

By 2007, Chris’ contract was near the end, and he renewed it with a year contract in the beginning. Back then, it was worth $1.263 million, which he again renewed a year later into a four-year contract extension worth $8.5 million. 

Boston Bruins

The Senators traded Chis Kelly to the Boston Bruins on February 15, 2011. Indeed, he had a big start with the team as he assisted them in bagging the Stanley Cup. 

His yet another career highlight came when he bagged the game-winning goal during Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series. Within two seasons, rumors of him returning to the Senators surfaced; however, it was only limited to a rumor.

Right after his injury, Chris Kelly went back to Ottawa Senators for a year. During 2016, he played all 82 games and posted 12 points. 

After his single-year deal ended with the Senators, Chris became an unrestricted free agent. In addition to that, he joined the summer tryout in September 2017 with the Edmonton Oilers.

Furthermore, he also joined the team’s training session but did not join the group. Later, he signed with the new AHL affiliate, the Belleville Senators. Nearing the end of the year 2018, Chris did earn a tryout contract with the same team. 

Anaheim Ducks 

Before ending his career, Chris Kelly signed a year contract with the Anaheim Ducks that earned him $1.25 million. During his year tenure on the team, Chris played only twelve games and had two assists.

After his 2017 tryout phase with the Belleville Senators, Chris Kelly played for the 2017 Spengler Cup. Indeed, he helped Team Canada bag the victory.

Chris Kelly | Injury

Chris poured his thoughts on retirement as “The Furthest Thing From My Mind” after he suffered a broken femur during the loss to the Dallas Stars in November 2015.
