Chris Snow, born on August 18, 1981, was the assistant general manager of the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Born in Melrose, Massachusetts, Snow had journalism and policy studies degrees from Syracuse University. 

Snow had been part of the Calgary Flames for a long time. The 42-year-old started his journey with the Flames in 2011 as the director of hockey analysis.

After 13 years in the NHL, in 2019, the Calgary Flames appointed Snow as their Assistant General Manager. 

His primary role included working closely with the general manager, Brad Treliving, and analyzing data to inform decision-making in all hockey-related operations.

However, after a cardiac arrest on September 27, 2023, the Flames exec suffered a catastrophic brain injury.

Kelsie Snow, the Flames exec, took to X and shared, “With a shattered heart, I’ve come to share that yesterday Chris became unresponsive and went into cardiac arrest.”

She further added that the doctors were able to get his heartbeat back, but scans showed that he suffered a catastrophic brain injury due to lack of oxygen.

Moreover, she mentioned that the doctors did not expect him to wake up from this injury.

Unfortunately, the disease ran in the family, as Snow had lost his father, two uncles, and a cousin to the disease.

Despite being diagnosed with the deadly disease, the assistant GM continued his work with the Flames.

Following the use of an experimental drug, he beat the initial prognosis of 1 year as the medicine was successful in silencing the mutated gene.

However, the disease affected Snow’s muscles and his ability to speak and eat.

Following the recent news about his brain injury, the Calgary Flames posted on X how important Snow had been for their organization and how his fight against the disease had inspired everyone in the organization.

They expressed their heartfelt gratitude and sent thoughts and prayers to Kelsie, Cohen, and Willa in this time of difficulty.
