Early Career

His family also supported Simmonds’s choice, whether from hockey, football, or any other sport. He grew up being a fan of the Detroit Red Wings and his favorite player Sergei Fedorov.

At the age of six, he played two years of house league and then switched teams to a rival team called the Vipers. Besides hockey, Wayne played basketball, volleyball, and soccer at his middle school.

When Wayne turned nine, he had his first hockey tournament in Ottawa. There he won the tournaments and got the title of the fastest skater contest.
