Christian Harris | Early Life & Family

The NFL player Christian was born on January 16, 2001, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His mother’s name is Ramona Harris, and his father’s name is Jefferson Harris.

The athletic blood runs in the family. Jefferson played football at Louisiana Tech. Likewise, Christian’s brother, Tylor Harris, is also a football player.

Tylor, Christian’s elder brother, is a 2012 Episcopal High School grad from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. During high school, Tylor participated in track and field, discus throw, and shot put. 

As a sophomore, Tylor won the state championship in the shot put with a throw of 17.9 meters. He was a football defensive end who made the first team All-State.

Tylor finished eighth in the shot put at the Wake Forest Open with a throw of 15.48 meters. At the Coastal Carolina Invitational, Tylor finished fourth in the shot put.

Likewise, the athlete finished fourth in the discus event at the Coastal Carolina Invitational with a throw of 38.70 meters.

In 2013 Indoor, the athlete recorded a distance of 16.27 meters in the shot put at the Hilton Garden Invitational.

High School Career

Christian decided to attend University Lab on the LSU campus, unlike Tylor, who went to Episcopal School.

The people of Baton Rouge anticipate that their best athletes will remain in the area to represent the Tigers.

When they get dressed in Tiger Stadium’s shadows, that is only intensified. There was more to the story with Christian, though.

Christian represented University Lab as a wide receiver and defensive back, but it soon became clear that he was more fit as a linebacker.

Prior to his sophomore year, that transition was first raised at a Louisiana-Lafayette camp.

Christian’s father, Jefferson, observed as Mark Hudspeth, a former head coach at ULL, separated Christian from the other receivers in the middle of a drill.

Christian was a wide receiver and cornerback in high school. The player took part in the All-American Bowl in 2019.

Prior to switching his commitment to the University of Alabama, Christian had previously committed to play college football at Texas A&M University.

College Career

Harris didn’t play linebacker in high school, but he was a linebacker when he started his true freshman year at Alabama in 2019.

He began the season as a starter and went on to start 12 of the 13 games, racking up 63 tackles and earning the title of Freshman All-SEC.

Harris came back as a starter in 2020 for his sophomore season. 

He announced his intent to enter the NFL Draft on January 17, 2022.

Harris excelled at the NFL Scouting Combine, where he met with several teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also had a 9.05 Relative Athletic Score, an analytics rating based on test performance.

The player completed the 40-yard dash in 4.44 seconds with a 10.3-yard split of 1.53 and a vertical leap of 34 1/2 inches.

Harris, a pillar at the center of one of the best defenses in the country, had his best year yet in 2021, finishing with 79 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.

Although Christian had the projection of getting selected in the second round, the Houston Texans chose Harris with the 75th overall pick in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Even though Harris didn’t hear his name called until the third round, he was still chosen ahead of Georgia linebacker Nakobe Dean, who many predicted would go in the first round.

Likewise, Harris was the third Alabama player drafted on Day 2 of the draft, following Metchie (44 overall, by Houston Texans) and Phidarian Mathis (No. 47, by Washington Commanders).

Harris finished his sophomore and junior years with 79 tackles, bringing his career total to 221.
