Power forward Georges Niang shares a strong bond with his parents, Sidy and Alison Niang.

Niang, 31, is one of the Cavaliers‘ veterans having a stunning season.

The Evan Mobley and Darius Garland-led team is one of the favorites to win the Larry O’Brien trophy alongside the Celtics and the Thunder.

Though Niang hasn’t been one of the main contributors, he has played in all 48 games for the franchise.

The Massachusetts-born and-raised player is averaging 8.7 points this season at an average of 20.5 minutes played.

The power forward scored double digits in his last two games, 10 against the Hawks and 15 against the Heat.

Drafted by the Indiana Pacers as the 50th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, Niang hasn’t had an easy road to becoming a regular NBA player.

In his early years in the NBA, Niang was assigned to several G-League teams, including Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the Indiana Pacers and the Santa Cruz Warriors of the Golden State Warriors.

After joining the Utah Jazz in 2018, Niang again played in the G-League, but since the 2019 season, the power forward hasn’t played on the G-League court.

Despite less playing time, Niang has enjoyed his best years in the NBA with the Cavaliers, and this season, he has the chance to cap off the 2024 season with a Championship.

Georges Niang’s Dad, Sidy Niang Has a Military Background!

Georges Niang’s parents, Sidy and Alison Niang, met at college but separated when the NBA player turned five.

Niang’s dad, Sidy Niang, was born in Dakar, Senegal, and worked for the military in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Sidy’s work with the military led to his divorce from Alison, as he was always gone for a long duration.

In an interview with Cyclone Fanatic, Georges said despite his father not being around him for a long period, he still demanded him to be the best.

The power forward said:

Sometimes my dad was being my biggest critic, but he does that out of love.

Sidy wasn’t athletic in his college days, but his brothers were relatively athletic.

In an interview with the NBA website, Niang said his two uncles played soccer in West Virginia, and another uncle swam.

The Cavaliers‘ player also said that his tall frame comes from his uncles rather than his dad, who stands at just under 6 feet.

In 2020, the power forward wished his dad on Father’s Day. Niang shared a post of him and his dad at the Jazz’s court, with Sidy wearing his son’s jersey.

He wrote, “Happy Father’s Day! Blessed to have you in my life to push me to heights, I never thought were imaginable. I love you. Enjoy the day!

Georges Niang Took His Mom to the Paris Olympics in 2024!

In January 2024, as the Cavs took off for Paris to play against the Brooklyn Nets in the regular season NBA game, Niang had a special company.

He chose to take his mom to Paris with him, and the mother-son duo even walked the red carpet together at one of the special events held for the NBA players.

In a photo dump shared by Niang on January 13, 2024, Alison and Georges posed in front of the lit-up Eiffel Tower. Time and again, the NBA player has shown he has always been a mama’s boy.

Previously, in 2022, Alison accompanied Georges to Ames Gold and Country Club, where he was a special guest.

Before the NBA draft in 2016, in an interview with The Denver Post, Alison shared that she was proud of her son’s accomplishment.

After Georges’ foot injury, he had ballooned to 260 pounds, but he quickly got his act straight and became a fitness freak.

And to encourage her son, Alison trained alongside him. By the end of the training program, Georges had dropped 40 pounds, and Alison had lost 20 pounds.

Speaking to The Denver Post, Georges said his mom sacrificed her happiness for him and has always been his rock and backbone.

On Mother’s Day 2022, Niang wrote a special letter to Alison, stating his drive to never stop was sparked by her.

Though Sidy and Alison separated early, the two were able to raise a son who didn’t have animosity toward any of his parents and remains grateful for their sacrifices.
