Edwards-Helaire was born to Clyde Edwards and Tonge on
Clyde’s biological Father was never around as he was arrested in a drug case. So, Clyde has very little memory of his biological Father.
Clyde’s mother, Tonge, joined the military in 1996. Clyde’s stepfather Shannon Helaire was also in the military. He joined the United States Marines in 1989. The couple met while they were working as drill instructors.
Growing up with military parents had a significant impact on Edwards-Helaire’s life. His discipline, competitive nature and never-give-up attitude result from his upbringing.
His stepfather had been in his life since he was a small kid. Edwards-Helaire’s stepfather was a drill instructor, so he grew up watching the instructions, which one could only watch in movies.
But Shannon Helaire was in his life from a young age. Clyde got fatherly love and care from him.

After spending a decade with his stepfather, Clyde knew his importance in life. His mother, Tonge, was the one who kept the family together in the hard times.

High School Career
Clyde went to Catholic High School. In his first year, he played on the varsity football team. Edwards-Helaire also played track & field.
In their senior year, Edwards-Helaire ran 58 times for 496 yards and 10 touchdowns.
The officials named him the MVP of the 5A State Championship Game. He caught eight passes for 161 yards and ran for 88 yards and a touchdown in the match against Archbishop Rummel High School in a 31-28 win.
Edwards-Helaire was rated a four-star after such an excellent game and went on to play college football at Louisiana State University.
College Career
Edwards-Helaire played in 13 games with the Tigers in the first year. He was on the special and ran 9 times for 31 yards.
Edwards-Helaire was second on the team, and he ran 658 yards and made seven touchdowns with 11 receptions for 96 yards in his sophomore year.
Edwards-Helaire had his first 100-yard game against Louisiana Tech in a 38–21 win. He ran for 136 yards with two touchdowns on 20 carries.
Edwards-Helaire was the starting running back for LSU and even led them to victory. He was also considered for the Maxwell and Paul Hornung Awards in his junior year.
Edwards-Helaire ran a total of 1,414 yards in the regular season and was ranked third for the performance in the school’s history. He made 16 touchdowns on 215 carries, 453 receiving yards, and a touchdown on 55 receptions and returned 16 kicks for 214 yards.
Also, Clyde was considered the first-team All-SEC selection at running back and the coaches’ second team. In the 2019 Peach Bowl, Edwards-Helaire had a hamstring injury against Oklahoma.
In the 2020 National Championship Game, Clyde has a fantastic game. He ran 16 times for 110 yards by catching 5 passes in the match against Clemson tigers with a 42-25 win. However, LSU defeated the team swiftly.
Edwards-Helaire decided to enter the 2020 NFL Draft and leave the senior year at the end of the season.
Professional Career
The Kansas City Chiefs drafted Edwards-Helaire as the 32 overall picks in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He debuted as the starting running back in Week 1.
In his first match for the Chiefs, he brought victory against the Houston Texans in a 34-20 win.
In the match, he ran 138 yards and had 1 touchdown. He was named the youngest player in NFL history for his excellent rush of 138 yards and 1 touchdown to do it in his debut match.
In Week 6, Edwards-Helaire ran 26 times for 161 yards against the Buffalo Bills in a 26-17 win. In Week 11, he had two touchdowns against the Las Vegas Raiders in a 35-31 win.
Edwards-Helaire had a hip and ankle injury in Week 15 against the New Orleans Saints in Week 15. Because of the damage, he had to miss out on all the season’s remaining games.
Edwards-Helaire recorded 181 carries for 803 rushing yards, four touchdowns, and an excellent rookie year. In the AFC Championship, he ran 6 times for 7 yards and had 1 touchdown against the Buffalo Bills in a 38-24 win.
In Super Bowl LV, he displayed a fantastic game by running 9 times for 64 yards and catching 2 passes against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
But, unfortunately, his team lost the match. After injuring his knee in the Chiefs in week 5, he suffered a knee injury and was out of the game for a month. He was back in the game on November 20, 2021.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire: Shooting Incident
In December 2018, Edwards-Helaire had a traumatic incident of a fatal shooting in Scotlandville, Louisiana. He was in the truck with his teammate Jared Small. They met 18-year-old Kobe Johnson for an arranged electronics sale.
Johnson pointed a gun at them and tried to steal their belongings. At that point, one of them pulled out their gun and shot him multiple times.
Police investigated the whole matter, and at last, Edwards-Helaire and his teammate were released by the Police as the case was sentenced as of self-defense shooting.

Likewise, on August 20, 2021, Edwards-Helaire again had an ankle injury in the match against Arizona. His team won the game, but he was out for a week.
On October 10, 2021, he had a knee injury in Week 5 against the Bills. The damage was severe, and he missed five games until recovery.
