High School Career

Uzomah went to North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, Georgia. He started his football career as a quarterback.

In his senior year, Uzomah had 2 touchdowns for 238 yards, ran for 74 yards, and had 168 receiving yards with one touchdown.

As a junior, he passed the ball for 1,750 yards and 15 touchdowns and ran for 800 yards with 10 touchdowns. 

College Career

Uzomah attended Auburn University for college. He had a marketing major in college. 

The 6’6″ tall athlete started playing football in his first year as a tight end. He had 29 passes with 7 touchdowns in his first four seasons. 

Uzomah was with the national team in the 2015 Medal of Honor Bowl. He made 1 reception for 29 yards and defeated the American team 26-14. 

On January 17, 2015, the news about Uzomah’s acceptance to the 2014 Senior Bowl came out.

Uzomah went through extensive training at the beginning with his teammates. He had to complete for in the tight end with others. After Termaine Gresham departed from the team, Uzomah got to play as a second tight end. 

Uzomah debuted as a professional for the regular season on December 6, 2015, after playing almost 11 games. He replaced Tyler Eifert as a second tight end.

Uzomah got his first reception in the match against the Cleveland Browns. The Bengals won the game with 37-3 points. Uzomah had 1 reception for 4 yards in 5 games and 0 starts in his debut season. 

On January 9, 2016, Uzomah had his first playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. But unfortunately, the Bengals lost the AFC Wildcard playoff game. The Bengals had a record of 12–4 AFC North in 2015.

2016 Pro Bowl

Uzomah was in training for the backup tight end in 2016. Tyler Kroft was the starting tight end of the Bengals. Tyler had a knee injury in training, so Uzamoh replaced him as the starting tight end in the 2016 Pro Bowl. 

Uzomah had 2 receptions against New York Jets and a season-high 59 yards, which brought victory to the Bengals. In week 6, he caught a season-high 5 catches for 43 yards against Dallas Cowboys. The Bengals lost 28-14. 

Uzomah was absent from week 11 to 15 as the injured tight-end teammates of the Bengals were back in-game. Before the final two games, Kroft and Eifret had injuries, so Uzomah was brought back. 

On January 1, 2017, Uzomah had his first career touchdown on a one-yard pass against a 27–10 win over the Baltimore Ravens. In the 2016 season, he had 25 receptions for 234 yards and a touchdown in ten games and eight starts.

The Following Year

Uzomah had to compete with Tyler Kroft and other recruits for the backup tight end. Finally, the head coach made Uzamoh the third tight end for the regular season. 

Uzomah replaced Tyler in week 3. On October 1, 2017, Uzomah caught his first catch of the season for an 11-yard against the Cleveland Browns. The Bengals won 31-7.

Uzomah had his first in the next game and made 1 reception for 21 yards. It was a 20-16 win against the Buffalo Bills.

In 2018, Uzomah scored a career-high 43 receptions for 439 yards and three touchdowns. He played 16 games with 15 starts.

Contract Extension

On March 11, 2019, Uzomah extended the contract with the Bengals for three years. The payment deal was $18 million. 

In 2020, Uzomah caught 4 passes for 42 yards and 1 touchdown in the season’s second game. He suffered from an Achilles tendon injury, so he had to miss out on the season’s remaining games and was kept in the injured reserve the next day. 

In 2021, Uzomah played 16 games and set a new record in his career graph. He had 49 receptions, 493 receiving yards, and 5 touchdowns. 

Uzomah caught 6 passes for 64 yards and 1 touchdown against the Las Vegas Raiders in the playoff. 

On November 30, 2021, Uzomah caught three catches for nine yards against the Steelers. In Week 16, Uzomah caught five catches for 36 yards against the Ravens. 

On January 4, 2022, Uzomah caught four catches for 32 yards against the Chiefs, resulting in the victory of the Bengals with 34-31 points. 

Unluckily, CJ suffered knee and hip injuries and missed out on practice on January 6, 2022. He was out for two weeks. 

Then, on January 16, 2022, Uzomah caught six passes for 64 yards and one touchdown against Las Vega. 

Uzomah made seven receptions for 71 yards against the Titans on January 22, 2022, and the Bengals won 19-16.

On November 17, 2016, Uzomah had a leg calf strain. Because of the calf injury, he had to miss 5 games.

Again on September 17, 2020, Uzomah suffered from right Achilles’ tendon injury in Week 2. Consequently, he had to miss out on the season’s remaining games and was kept on the injured reserve the next day.
