The sudden passing of 20-year-old Muskingum University student-athlete Jeremy Michael has left his family and community devastated, but no one feels this loss more deeply than his mother, Heather Gibson.

As tributes pour in and fundraisers form to support her, the love she shared with her only child has become a central part of the story of who Jeremy was and the incredible impact he made.

Jeremy Michael collapsed while playing basketball with friends at Muskingum University, where he studied Sports Communication and played as a defensive lineman.

His death shocked his teammates, classmates, and the North Ridgeville community—but it is Heather, his mother, who now bears the unimaginable weight of losing her only son.

Friends describe Heather as a hardworking and devoted parent who built her life around supporting Jeremy’s dreams.

She lives in North Ridgeville, Ohio, and previously worked at O’Neill Healthcare Bay Village after studying at LCCC.

Those who know her say she raised Jeremy with strength, warmth, and constant encouragement.

Wendy Reisner created a fundraiser to help Heather manage the overwhelming expenses of bringing Jeremy home from Muskingum and covering funeral costs.

She emphasized that Heather is now facing not only heartbreak but also the financial burdens that come with a sudden loss.

The Muskingum community, classmates from North Ridgeville, and friends who grew up with Jeremy have shared tributes that repeatedly highlight Heather’s role in raising a young man who touched countless lives.

The MACE Alumni Association also encouraged donations to “help his parents cover the cost,” showing how deeply the community recognizes Heather’s need for support during this painful time.

Many close to the family have described Heather as a mother who adored her son and supported him through every part of his journey—school, sports, friendships, and college life.

The outpouring of meals, gift cards, messages, and donations reflects how much the community wants to uplift her now that she must face life without him.

Jeremy’s coaches and mentors repeatedly praised his character, warmth, and infectious personality—qualities that those close to the family attribute to Heather’s influence.

Coach Bryan Morgan from North Ridgeville said Jeremy was the kind of person “it was hard not to like.”

His enthusiasm, humor, and natural leadership shone at school, on the football field, and even in the broadcast class, where he created his beloved segment Jer Bear’s Food Reviews.

Heather’s guidance helped Jeremy grow into a kind and confident young man who made others smile wherever he went. Their close bond was evident to everyone who knew them.

As classmates, teammates, and acquaintances grieve Jeremy’s passing, they also keep Heather at the center of their thoughts and prayers.

She raised a son who made classrooms brighter, teams stronger, friendships deeper, and communities more united.

Now, as she navigates a future without him, supporters hope to give her the strength she needs to grieve and heal.

The community continues to rally around her, honoring Jeremy by caring for the person who meant the most to him—his mother.
