Belleville West High School Student-Athlete Dalton Vonderheide, 17, Dies in Fatal Car Crash in St. Charles County,Missouri Leaves Behind Mother Ashley and Family

Dalton Vonderheide, a Belleville, Illinois native and high school student-athlete, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025, in a fatal car accident at an untimely age of 17.

According to reports, 17-year-old Dalton Vonderheide lost his life in a crossover crash on Interstate 70 in St. Charles County, Missouri.

Dalton was driving a 1993 Dodge Stealth eastbound on I-70 near Wentzville Parkway when the accident occurred at 11:33 a.m., said the Missouri Highway Patrol.

Authorities reported that he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to cross the median, breach a cable barrier, and enter the westbound lanes. There, the car struck the passenger side of an oncoming 2018 Mack truck.

Dalton Vonderheide was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders at 11:42 a.m. The reports stated that the 34-year-old man from Aiken, South Carolina, who was driving the Mack truck, sustained no injuries.

Furthermore, the untimely death of Dalton Vonderheide has left a profound void in the lives of his family, friends, and loved ones.

Dalton Vonderheide touched the lives of many with his amazing athletic skills, musical talents, and kind nature.

Dalton Vonderheide Was a Standout Football Player at Belleville West High School

Dalton Vonderheide was a senior at Belleville West High School in Belleville, Illinois, where he played varsity football.

During his high school career, Dalton contributed consistently to the Belleville West football program.

As a sophomore in 2023, he helped the team achieve a 3-6 record, finishing 5th in their conference and earning a state rank of #252.

He continued to build on his performance as a junior in 2024, with the team again posting a 3-6 record, finishing 4th in the conference and ranked #218 in the state.

In addition to being an amazing football player, Dalton Vonderheide was also a beloved member of Belleville West High School’s musical band.

His indefinable contributions to the Belleville Community, as a great athlete and through his kind nature, will always be remembered.

Dalton Vonderheide is survived by his mother, Ashley Vonderheide; his grandparents; cousins; uncles; aunts; and the entire family.

While no information about his father is available, his mother, Ashley, took to her social media to pay tribute to the late Dalton.
