Dalvin Cook Parents: James And Varondria White

Dalvin Cook’s parents, James and Varondria White, divorced when Dalvin was quite young.

Though the running back always shared a tight bond with his parents, Dalvin was much closer to his dad, James.

Dalvin Shared A Strong Bond With His Dad

Dalvin started living with his father and grandmother, popularly known as Miss Betty, in her community at 13. With Betty, James would attend all of Dalvin’s games at Florida State.

He owned a mobile car wash business and loved cooking Chinese chicken fried rice for his son. The father-son duo would go fishing together though neither was too good at it.

It was a dream come true for James when he saw his son become an NFL player in 2017. The father of six passed away on December 29, 2020, due to complications from diabetes.

In his interview with ESPN, Dalvin said he saw it unfold during a Facetime call with his grandmom. Only the night before his father’s demise, Cook had received a call from James late at night.

The running back did wonder why his dad had called him late at night, knowing he would already be asleep. While on the call with his grandmom, Cook saw his father take his last breath.

He had decided to dedicate the 2021 season to his late father, but he missed out on the majority of the games because of his injuries.

His Mom Varondria Is His Biggest Supporter

As he waited patiently for his name to be called out in the 2017 NFL Draft, Dalvin was closely seated with his mom, Varondria.

He still has the photo of his mom hugging him as his name got called out on his Instagram. Despite their divorce, Varondria and James continued to raise their kids amicably.
