Controversies

In his career, Le Batard has been entangled in multiple disputes.

He became a Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) member in 2014.

On January 9, 2014, the BBWAA banned him for a year because he criticized the BBWAA’s voting process of selecting players having previous drug scandals.

He was also stripped of his Hall of Fame voting privileges as he spoke against the voting process.

On August 7, 2014, Le Batard was suspended for two days by ESPN as he allegedly took out a billboard in Akron, Ohio. The billboard referred to Lebron James‘s return to Cleveland Cavaliers. 

However, on August 11, 2014, Le Batard expressed that the suspension was not for the billboard but to do a live radio transmission. 

In 2018, Zoo Miami wanted to name a baby hippo Le Batard but could not because Disney policy does not allow names after personalities.

The hippo was named after Le Batard on January 5, 2021, a day after he departed from ESPN. 

On July 18, 2019, Le Batard criticized former President Trump’s “Go back” tweets and missed several days of his show before finally making amendments by meeting with the ESPN president.
