During the summers, he worked as a “runner” on the beaches of South Jersey, doing odd jobs and helping tourists.
Consequently, his earnings helped his family make ends meet and enabled him to pay for his education at a nearby private high school.
Roman was a standout football player at Holy Spirit High School in Absecon, NJ, and made the All-South Jersey team in his senior year.
After graduating from high school in 1991, he was awarded an academic scholarship to John Carroll University in the Cleveland suburbs.
