Waller is one of the two children of parents Dorian and Charlena Waller. Furthermore, he is also the great-grandson of legendary jazz musician Fats Waller.
Darren Charles Waller, an American footballer, was born on September 13, 1992, and plays for the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL).
Waller started his professional football career playing college football at Georgia Tech as a wide receiver. In the 2015 NFL draft, the Baltimore Ravens picked Waller in the sixth round as the 204th pick.
After struggling with proper game time and substance abuse that saw him suspended from the league, the tight end made a comeback to the NFL on August 7, 2018.
However, his actual comeback would come in the 2019 season, playing for the Oakland Raiders. The former Ravens finished with 90 receptions for 1,145 yards and three touchdowns, earning him 99th rank on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2020.
With the Raiders, Waller recorded his best stats yet, with 107 receptions, 1,196 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns in 2020. With the fourth-best receptions in the NFL, he was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time.
After signing a three-year deal of $51 million with the Raiders, Waller became the highest-paid tight end in the league.
However, on March 15, 2023, the Raiders traded Waller to the New York Giants.

The Greatest Comeback
Following his year-long suspension and completing a rehabilitation program, the league reinstated Waller in 2018.
However, the journey back to sobriety and onto the field was no easy feat for the Giant’s tight end.
After experiencing a near-death overdose in his car, Waller checked in to the McLean Borden Cottage for a 30-day in-patient rehabilitation program.
In the rehab, Waller worked on understanding himself and what he wanted his future to look like. He reportedly attended small-group therapy along with one-on-one counseling.
Furthermore, with enough journaling, meditation, yoga, and writing song lyrics focused on sobriety and recovery, he experienced the freedom to be himself.
Additionally, after returning home from rehab, Waller started working at Sprouts Farmers Market, where he was responsible for stacking produce items.
Despite getting reinstated by the NFL, the Ravens placed him on the practice squad as they had drafted two new tight ends during his suspension.
Following a strict training regiment, from early in training to leaving late for additional lift sessions, Waller caught the eye of the Oakland Raiders coach.
After defeating the Baltimore Ravens, the Oakland Raiders claimed Waller on their flight home.
