David Blough salary with the Commanders remains a speculation. But it is believed that the former Lions quarterback is earning less than 100k.
Soon after the QB announced his retirement from the sport at age 28, he immediately landed a coaching job with an NFL team. Blough will join Dan Quinn’s side, Washington Commanders, as their assistant quarterback coach.
Blough made his first NFL start as a player in 2019 for the Browns. He went on to play for the Lions for three seasons before joining the Cardinals and later returning to the Lions.
At Commanders, David will be reunited with former Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury, the Washington Commanders’ current offensive coordinator. It’s reported that David had impressed Kingsbury during the end of the 2022 season.
The Washington Commanders also have David Raih as their tight ends coach, who previously worked with the Cardinals as their receivers coach.
David Blough Salary: How Much Is The New Commanders Coach Earning?
David Blough salary at the NFL side Washington Commanders hasn’t been revealed. But many speculate it must be lower than the six-figure salary he earned as an NFL player.
It has been previously assumed that position coaches make between $100k-$500k and $500k upwards for head assistants. So, with Blough appointed as an assistant to the position coach, he must be making less than them.
David might’ve experienced the NFL as a player, but this is the first time he will gain experience as a coach. He also has no coaching experience prior to joining the Commanders, which will further pull his earnings down.
In 2021, former New England Patriots coach Bret Bielema entered into a lawsuit against the University of Arkansas. This lawsuit against Arkansas dragged the Patriots head coach, Bill Belichick, and the Patriots.
Bielema’s attorney, Tom Mars, stated that the Patriots normally pay new coaches without NFL experience between $15,000-$65,000 a year. Bielema joined the Patriots at $25,000 for the role of defensive consultant.
He was later given a salary of $100,000 and $250,000 in full-time roles when he was promoted to defensive line coach. The filing also revealed that several successful coaches joined the Belichick’s staff for salaries as low as $15,000.
So, there is a chance that David Blough is also earning a bit below $100,000.
David Blough Net Worth: A Short-Lived NFL Career As A Player
The former Cardinals quarterback David Blough reportedly has a net worth of $700,000. Blough joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2019 and retired last year.
He had initially signed a three-year $1.7 million contract with the Cleveland Browns but was traded a few months later to the Detroit Lions. At Browns, Blugh was a fourth-string quarterback.
With the Lions, Blough spent three seasons and signed a two-year contract worth $1.5 million. He was released by the Lions in 2022 and joined the Vikings’ practice squad.
He couldn’t make it to the active roster, and the Cardinals picked him up. David signed a one-year deal worth $965,000 with the Cardinals and played the final two games of the season.
In 2023, David re-signed with Arizona, with Yahoo! reporting that the QB was set to make $1.23 million. But he couldn’t make it to the final roster and returned to Detroit in August.
The Lions signed the quarterback into their practice squad, and according to Spotrac, he was handed a contract worth $370,800.
