David Wear Jr. is a retired American professional basketball player who most recently played for the National Basketball League’s Sydney Kings (NBL).

He was a member of the North Carolina Tar Heels and the UCLA Bruins in college. In 2015, he was a member of the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

After going undrafted in the 2014 NBA draft, he spent most of the 2014–15 season in the NBA Development League (now known as the NBA G League). However, he also played briefly in the NBA with Sacramento.

David subsequently spent two seasons with Baloncesto Fuenlabrada in Spain before joining Osaka.

David Wear: Early Life and Education

The NBL player David Wear was born on September 21, 1990, in Long Beach, California. His father’s name is David Wear Sr. Likewise, his mother’s name is Gloria Wear.

David’s father played basketball in college at Fresno State and Cal State Fullerton, as well as professionally overseas. So, we can say that the athletic gene runs in the family.

High School Career

David attended Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, and was a two-time California Interscholastic Federation State champion in 2007 and 2008.

Wear achieved tremendous success in his high school days. The player was named county boys’ basketball player of the year and a fourth-team Parade All-American in 2009. 

Likewise, he was a repeat first-team all-county member, first-team All-Division I-AA member, first-team all-league member, a second-team all-state member in 2009.

The player was also an all-state sophomore in 2007. Moreover, in 2009, Wear was ranked as the No. 16 power forward and the No. 59 overall player.

College Career

Wear was a freshman for the reigning national champion North Carolina Tar Heels. The player averaged over 10 minutes per game and provided 2.9 points and 1.7 rebounds.

The North Carolina Tar Heels did not compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament, which disappointed its supporters.

In May 2010, he switched to UCLA following the season. Due to NCAA transfer restrictions, he was redshirted the following season.

In 2012–13, UCLA won the Pac-12 Conference title. However, after the season, UCLA coach Ben Howland was sacked, causing David to contemplate transferring.

Further, David received the Irv Pohlmeyer Memorial Trophy for being the team’s outstanding defensive player at the team’s annual dinner following the 2013–14 season. 

D-League and NBA

David joined the Chicago Bulls for the 2014 NBA Summer League after going undrafted in the 2014 NBA draft. He joined the Sacramento Kings on September 25, 2014. 

However, on October 19, 2014, David was released by the Kings. On November 2, 2014, he was acquired as an affiliate player by the Reno Bighorns.

Wear’s shooting skills enabled him to thrive in Coach David Arseneault Jr.’s run-and-gun style.

As a result, he was asked to compete in the Three-Point Contest at the 2015 D-League All-Star Weekend.

Davis signed a 10-day deal with the Sacramento Kings on March 23, 2015. Unfortunately, he was not retained by the Kings when his 10-day contract expired on April 2.

Similarly, the player also participated in the Orlando Summer League with the Detroit Pistons and the Las Vegas Summer League with the Sacramento Kings in July 2015.

Yes, after the 2014 season, the player played overseas. Wear signed a contract with Baloncesto Fuenlabrada of Spain for the 2015–16 season on August 10, 2015.
