Haskins collected a few Big Ten conference awards to his name in single-season as a starter.

Dwayne Haskins Jr. was born on May 3, 1997, in Highland Park, New Jersey. His father’s name is Dwayne Haskins Sr., and his mother’s name is Tamara Haskins.

Haskins Sr. is the owner of iRideHaskins.com, whereas Tamara works at New York Life Insurance Company. 

Haskins has a younger sister named Tamia Haskins. She is four years younger than him, and both attended the same high school. Haskins sister is an actress and his best friend.

During childhood, Haskins attended many camps. Later with his father, he worked on drills mainly to avoid pressure in the pocket. 

Haskins, in middle school, also worked with former NFL player Shawn Springs. Later, he was mentored by NFL wide receiver Mohamed Sanu.

In 2011, Haskins played in Ohio in the USA vs. World game. Despite being an 8th grader during the game, Haskins impressed everyone with ridiculous attention to detail.

During his high school football career for Bullis between 2013 to 2016, Haskins passed for 5,308 yards along with 54 touchdowns. 

Haskins had offers from 38 different colleges. Firstly he chose Maryland, but after Randy Edsall, i.e., Maryland coach, was fired, Haskins committed to Ohio State to play football.

During his first year at Ohio State, Haskins redshirted. Later in his second year, Haskins was named a backup for J.T. Barrett and did not start any matches.

Similarly, Haskins finished the 2017 season with 57 passes, 565 running yards, and four touchdowns.

Record-Setting Season

In the 2018 college football season, Haskins started in all 14 games for Ohio State.

Haskins threw 50 touchdowns in a single season, one of the seven quarterbacks to achieve that milestone.

Secondly, Haskins set Ohio State’s passing record with 4831 passing yards. 

In the Big Ten Football Championship game against North Western, Haskins threw for 499 yards and 5 touchdowns. Later he was maned Most Valuable Player.

NFL Draft

During preparation for the NFL draft, Haskins worked out with Quincy Avery, Bullis School quarterback coach. He used to train four days a week for six hours.

Haskins used to practice throwing with footwork drills and the next two hours doing lifting and agility work. 

During the 2019 NFL draft Haskins was selected in the first round by Washington Redskins (Washington Commanders) as the 15th pick.

Even though, jersey number 7 was unofficially retired by Washington in honor of Joe Theismann, Haskins was granted the 7 number after his request.

Haskins made his debut for the team against New York Giants in Week 4. He threw 107 passing yards and three interceptions, but Giants defeated Washington with a score of 24-3.

Later in week 9, Haskins made his first-ever start for Washington in a 24-9 loss against Buffalo Bills. 

In week 12, Haskins got his first win as a starter as Washington defeated Detroit Lions 19-16. 

During the 2020 season, Haskins was named one of the team captains and starters for Washington. 

First Covid19 Protocol Breach

In October, before the match against New York Giants, Haskins broke the league Covid19 protocol for the first time.

He invited a family friend to the team hotel in New York. Later, Washington fined him $4,833 for breaking protocol. As a result, Haskins was benched and remained a backup until week 14.

In a game against the San Francisco 49ers, Haskins got a chance to play for the first time after a protocol breach. He came as a substitute for the injured Alex Smith.

Later, Haskins started against the Seattle Sea Hawks in the next match. Haskins threw for 295 yards, including two interceptions and one touchdown. 

Second Breach 

In December, Haskins attended his girlfriend’s birthday party without wearing a mask. The photograph of the party led to another Covid-19 protocol breach.

Later, Haskins was fined $40,000 and stripped from the captain position for breaking protocols again.

But he started the next match later, being benched in the 4th quarter. He threw 14 passes for 154 yards, including two interceptions.  

After discussing both parties, Washington released Haskins before the end of the second year. 

New Team, Pittsburgh Steelers 

Haskins later signed a contract with another NFL team Pittsburgh Steelers, on January 21, 2021. He was named the team’s third-string quarterback behind Ben Roethlisberger and Mason Rudolph. However, he only got to play one game that season.

Dwayne signed a one-year, restricted free-agent tender by the Steelers on March 16, 2022. However, after a couple of weeks of signing his contract, he suffered a tragic accident leading to his death.

On April 9, 2022, Haskins was reportedly dead, apparently after being hit by a dump truck while trying to cross Interstate 595 near the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., airport.

The initial report by the Florida Highway Patrol suggested that the quarterback was clubbing all night long and was looking for a gas station while a woman was left waiting in the car.

The patrol team also declared that the blood alcohol content in his body was 2.5 times the legal limit in Florida, and also ketamine was found when his urine was tested.

After being drafted, Haskins signed a $14 million guaranteed contract with Washington Commanders. According to Spotrac, Haskins earned around $8.9 million in his rookie season.

But after being released by Washington, Haskins is still being paid his remaining money. Likewise, Haskins signed one year $2.5 million non-guaranteed Steelers contract and played for the rest of the season.

In his three seasons with Washington Commanders and Pittsburgh Steelers, he collected around $15.2 million.
