Price, a football player, bear-hugged August Borden from behind as they left a workout facility, causing Borden to pass out on August 19, outside Deshler High School.
Later, his foot slipped off, landing on a set of stairs, and he was utterly unconscious.
Authorities in Alabama have decided not to file criminal charges after a high school football player, August Borden, suffered a serious head injury at his school.
The district attorney’s office concluded the incident was a “freak unfortunate accident.“
August and Price were leaving a workout together. They were described as having a friendly relationship, laughing and talking together. As they walked, Price came up behind August and gave him a “bear hug.”
A witness stated that August coughed and made a strange noise, prompting the other player to let go, sensing something was wrong.
Immediately afterward, for an unknown reason, August passed out. He fell to the ground with full force, unable to break his fall.
The incident left him with severe injuries, including a serious concussion, fractures under both eyes, and a fracture in his skull. He had to be airlifted to a hospital for treatment.
Controversy Erupts at Deshler High School Following Serious Student Injury
A serious incident at Deshler High School has sparked community outrage and a divisive response among students.
Price bear-hugged student August Borden from behind as they left a workout facility, causing August to pass out and fall.
No criminal charges were filed in the case, and the aftermath has drawn sharp criticism.
According to a Facebook post by Abby Blabby, Price and a friend posted “#beatthecase” on a private Snapchat story after the decision was announced.
The controversy has since moved to the school’s football field, and supporters of Price have been seen wearing “The Price is Right” pins at games. It has also been alleged that the theme song from the game show is played when he scores a touchdown.
On the other hand, these displays of support have angered those close to August’s situation.
Critics argue that celebrating the athlete while another student is recovering from life-altering injuries shows a profound lack of respect and empathy.
August Borden’s Family Vows to Continue Fight for Justice
The family of August Borden is refusing to give up their fight for justice, despite the Madison County District Attorney officially closing the criminal case.
District Attorney Rob Broussard ruled the incident that injured August was an accidental result of “horseplay” between two students and will not press criminal charges.
August’s father, Jason Borden, stated he was “shocked and appalled” by this decision.
The Borden family believes there’s more to the case.
In a statement, the family’s attorneys, Kristin K. Stamps and Shane Sears, expressed deep gratitude for the public’s support but made it clear their search for answers is not over.
