Destiny Udogie’s parents Franklin, and Kate Udogie, say their first experience with their son’s soccer talent wasn’t all great. The Italian left-backs wailing and crying made them enroll him in the same training center as his brother.
With the name that means “Good News,” Destiny Udogie has always been a highly sought-after talent in Italy. Some might even say Spurs were lucky to get their hands on the player for a cheap price.
Soon after signing him, the London club loaned him back to Udinese, where he had a strong season. The left-back draws inspiration from the former Real Madrid star Marcelo, and we can see Destiny has an attacking flair to his gameplay.
The youngster started for Tottenham’s opening game against Brentford, and though it ended in a disappointing draw, fans are excited to see what the youngster will bring to the table.
Destiny Udogie Parents, Franklin, And Kate Udogie
Destiny Udogie’s parents, Franklin and Kate Udogie, come from Nigeria. The couple raised their three kids in Verona, Italy.
The young Italian player Destiny’s full name is Iyenoma Destiny Udogie. In an interview, he said his parents gave him the name Iyenoma which means “Good News.”
Though born and raised in Italy, Destiny speaks fluent English, which he credits to his family as it was the language they primarily spoke in their home. Udogie says his dad and mom from childhood taught him to be humble and respect others.
In Udogie’s case, his mom first recognized his soccer talent. As Kate saw her son kick everything around the house, she thought maybe he was passionate about the sport.
Kate’s intuitions proved correct as her son became part of the Italian setup since the U-16 days. The left-back has said his family has been supportive of his career since day one.
In his interview, Destiny said, “My father pushed me a lot. Everybody, my father, my sister, my mum. All of them.”
Kate and Franklin Udogie are available on Facebook but have mostly shared childhood pictures of the rising soccer star.
Destiny Udogie Siblings, Uwe, And Desire Udogie
Destiny Udogie is the middle child among the three siblings. His two siblings Uwe, and Desire Udogie, have remained away from the spotlight.
His parents had to enroll him in training with the Nogara youth team after Destiny wouldn’t stop crying watching his older brother play with other kids.
Uwe Udogie is a year older than his brother and is currently a student at the University of Padua. His younger sister, Destiny Udogie, is a teenager, and though she hasn’t shared any posts, a few of her Instagram stories remain as highlights in her account.
She also shared an Instagram story of traveling to watch her brother play for Udinese. We might see more of Destiny and the Udogie family in England as Destiny establishes himself in the first team.
Destiny Udogie Career So Far
The young left-back soccer talent has never been in doubt since day one. When he was six, Destiny used to play for Nogara, a small team from the lower Verona area.
An observer from Atlanta FC was stunned by the six-year-old Destiny that he refused to believe his age. Franklin said they had to show him his birth certificates.
But every star faces its first rejection, and Destiny’s came early in his career. Destiny was turned down by Hellas Verona twice and was accepted only in his third trial.
Udogie made his senior debut for Vernos against AC Milan in 2020 at age 17. He was then sent out on loan with Udinese in 2021 before being picked up by Tottenham Hotspurs.
In his debut season with Udinese in 2021, Udogie made 35 starts contributing five goals and three assists. Spurs signed Udogie for an initial £15m, which might look like a bargain shortly.
The left-back has already praised his new manager and the Spurs side that looks different than the one he signed for.
