Devon Toews was born to his parents, Werner Toews and Tammy Toews, on 21 February 1994 in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Unfortunately, there is not much information regarding his early childhood.

Toews’s professional career began with the team that drafted him in the 2014 NHL Draft, New York Islanders.

After leaving Quinnipiac University, Devon signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Islanders.
