Jack Rafe Flaherty is an American professional baseball pitcher playing for the St. Louis Cardinals in the Major League Baseball (MLB). The 28 years old player made his MLB debut in 2017.

He was chosen by the St. Louis Cardinals in the first round of the MLB draft in 2014 where he was ranked 34th in overall pick.

Flaherty attended Harvard-Westlake School where he pitched and played shortstop and third base as a member of the varsity baseball team for four years.

With a record of 35–3 in his amateur career, Jack was named the 2014 California Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year. Further, the Los Angeles Times chose him as the baseball player of the year in 2014.

After signing with the Cardinals, Flaherty began his minor league career with the Cardinals of the Gulf Coast League whereas in 2015, he played for the Peoria Chiefs.

Baseball America ranked him as the third-best prospect in the Cardinals’ system before the 2016 season. His MLB record stands at 37-29 with a 3.55 ERA having made 649 strikeouts.

Jack was born in Burbank, California on 15 October 1995. He was adopted by his single mother, Eileen Flaherty when he was just three weeks old. 

Jack Flaherty does not have a sister. However, he is not an only child and is known to have a younger brother.

Meet Brother Grady Flaherty

Grady Flaherty works full-time as a sales representative at E&J Gallo Winery. He has been working with the winery since June 2022.

Grady was born on January 18, 2000, making him four and a half years younger than his elder brother. The Flaherty brothers share a close bond.

A Havard Westlake School graduate, same as his elder brother, Grady was also a member of the school baseball roster during his time in Westlake from 2014 to 2018.

He attended Gonzaga University – School of Business Administration and earned his Bachelor of Business Administration specializing in Human Resources Management and Management Information Systems.

His professional career started as a general merchandise expert at Target in June 2019. He worked at Target until August 2020, where his major duties were analyzing sales history, pushing items onto the floor, managing stockroom levels, and providing customer service.

In January 2021, he became a business intern at Second Harvest Inland Northwest, Washington. He was responsible for the design and implementation of a training program for the employees.

He joined Vision To Learn as a human resources intern and assisted in the new hire onboarding before landing at his current job in the wine and spirits industry.

Jack Flaherty Mother

Jack along with his younger brother, Grady, were raised single-handedly by their mother, Eileen Flaherty. She raised the boys by indoctrinating goals like respecting women, loving god, and putting family first.

Eileen Flaherty holds the position of senior director of corporate finance at NBC Universal. She adores her sons and shares a close bond with them despite Jack being an adoptee.

Eileen supported Jack in every phase of his life. She also visits the grounds to watch his matches and cheers for him from the stands.

Eileen, a breast cancer survivor, will be serving as the honorary Captain for the 2023 Komen Greater St. Louis MORE THAN PINK Walk Cardinals Team which will be held on the 10th of June.

She made many sacrifices throughout the years which helped give Jack and his brother, every chance at success. Jack, in an interview, said that it was impossible to put into words how much she meant to him.
