Gullett’s demise was announced by the Reds on Wednesday. The pitcher passed away at age 73, but the cause of his death hasn’t been revealed.

Don Gullett Net Worth Before Death

The Reds legend Don Gullett had a net worth of $1 million. The former MLB player could’ve made more in his playing career if it weren’t for his injuries that ended his career at age 27.

Gullett began his baseball career with the Cincinnati Reds in 1970. He played for the Reds until 1976 before joining the New York Yankees in 1977.

The Reds had tried to sign Gullett throughout the season, but wouldn’t meet his demands on both money and length of contract. So, Gullett hit the free agency.

And that is when the New York Yankees came calling. The Yankees offered Gullett a six-year deal worth $2 million. So, there is a chance that Gullett was earning $1 million or close to a seven million figure with the Reds.

Despite playing only eight professional seasons, Don was able to make a special place in baseball fans’ hearts. There is a reason why he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

He retired in 1978 due to a rotator cuff injury. A day before the All-Star game, Gullett felt his arm catch during the warmup. When he took to the mound to start the game, he had no idea he was about to pitch the final two innings of his career.

At the time, Gullett and his family lived in a mansion he had built on a 75-acre Kentucky Highway 7. After retirement, Gullett and his family returned to their farm in Greenup County.

Gullett took up the pitching coach role with the Reds and worked with them until 2005. Before his demise, Gullett had kept himself low-key and hadn’t made any public appearance in years.
