Duncan Robinson is a talented professional American player who currently stars for the Miami Heat of the NBA League.
Robinson had initially failed to make it in the NBA draft. However, his fate completely changed after the Heat gave him an opportunity in the 2018-19 season.
Duncan has appeared in every season for the club since 2018 and is now one of their best shooting guards.
Before that, he played his college basketball for two different university teams, namely Williams Ephs and Michigan Wolverines.
Duncan has not achieved much from his playing career as he has not won any significant trophies and awards yet.
Arguably, the most commendable thing about him is that he made it back to the world’s biggest basketball league even after failing in the draft.
While most young players get demotivated and move into the shadows following their failure, Duncan decided to face the challenges and eventually showed the world he was not done yet.
His resilient nature and uncompromising attitude are what keep him moving.
Now, let’s discover more about his early life and the challenges he faced while beginning the NBA journey. But prior to that, here are some quick facts about Duncan Robinson.

Early Life, Family & Education
On April 22, 1994, Duncan Robinson was born in York, Maine, United States. He was the youngest child of Jeffrey and Elisabeth Robinson.
Before him, his parents had given birth to his sister Marta and a brother named Eli. Duncan’s family moved to North Hampshire when he was a little kid.
His mother, Elisabeth, was a certified medical practitioner and nurse, so she used to work at a hospital in North Hampshire.
She belonged to the same area and had a degree in nursing and arts from the University of Hampshire.
He initially attended Maude H. Trefethen Elementary School, located nearby his residence, until he finished his sixth grade. Even though very few students were in his classroom, he had fun while growing up.
Because of his friendly manners, he could easily catch up with other kids, even the older ones. As a result, he began playing games with them and grew fond of sports over time.
However, football and basketball were among his best sports. He regularly practiced shots on the streets with his friends and at home with his siblings, apart from playing at school.
He was fully invested in the sport from his teenage years.
Although his mom, Elisabeth, used to be at work most of the time, she managed to be with them whenever needed. His father set up a mini hoop in their living room to cheer him up.
Furthermore, he graduated high school in 2012 but joined the Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire for a year before joining the college in 2013.
Robinson holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from the University of Michigan.
Duncan Robinson | Basketball Career
High School Career
Robinson enrolled in The Governor’s Academy in Massachusetts and played basketball for their high school team.
Even though he had a great passion for the sport, he did not get much playtime at first because he was deemed short for a high school basketball player.
However, he worked out to improve his physicality in his junior year and the basketball practice and showed some improvements.
Duncan used to practice shooting and dribbling for hours, attempting to make around 1600 shots per week. Gradually, his hard work paid off when he averaged 18.5 points in his senior season.
He had terrible overall high school records, so he thought of attending the Phillips Exeter Academy after graduation to get offers from better colleges. He led the academy to its first NEPSAC Class A championship victory in 2013.

College Career
Duncan initially settled for Williams College in Williamstown for his college basketball in 2013.
However, the Williams Ephs played in the NCAA Division III championship. It was apparent that Robinson would have a hard time getting into the NBA if he continued playing for this team.
Nevertheless, he led the team to the NCAA Division III championship finals in his first year and completed the season with an average of 17.1 points per game.
Consequently, he got scholarship offers from various elite institutions. He eventually decided to go to the University of Michigan in late 2014 and played there for three seasons until he graduated in 2018.
Even though his records with the Wolverines were average, he finished his college career with 237 three-pointers, the fourth-highest in Michigan’s history.
Professional Career
No NBA club picked Duncan in the 2018 NBA draft. However, the Miami Heat wanted to test the young player for a while, so they signed him for the then-upcoming NBA Summer League.
After playing five summer league games, he impressed the Heat, where he averaged 12.4 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. Duncan signed a two-way contract with them on July 10, 2018.
He became the first player from Division III to make a debut in the NBA on October 24 after Devean George.
However, he mostly played in the NBA G League for the Sioux Falls Skyforce, where he had an outstanding performance. Likewise, he appeared for 12 matches in his first NBA season with the Heat.
Robinson emerged as a regular player for the Heat in 73 games in his second NBA season. He showed remarkable progress and finished the season with an average of 13.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
The Wall Street Journal declared him “the most improbable player in the league” and “one of the best shooters on earth” in an article published on December 13, 2019.
Furthermore, in the third season, Robinson completed his 500 three-pointers, becoming the fastest player to do so in NBA history.
He signed a new five-year deal worth with the Heat on August 6, 2021, and is playing well in the new 2021-22 season as well.
