He quickly rose as the core player on the team and was voted the Rookie Challenge’s most valuable player at All-Star Weekend.
Likewise, he was named NBA Rookie of the Year with Houston Rockets player Steve Francis.
Brand was regarded as the rising star for the new Chicago dynasty for most of the 2000–01 season. But, despite his stellar performance with the team, Elton was traded off to Los Angeles Clippers in June 2001.
However, Brand was a valuable addition to the Clippers and became the first Clippers player to be named on the All-Star team since Danny Manning in 1994.

In 2003, the Miami Heat offered him a six-year contract for $82 million, but the Clippers couldn’t afford Brand to sign with Miami and thus, offered the same deal to keep him as a Clipper.
